Which is fine. But dont make him more than what he really is

Irony meter exploding.

It's like clockwork . The good thing is he generally dead wrong on all his evaluations , so it bodes well for Williams

He's young, athletic and has great instincts. Kocurek will definitely make him the best player he can be.

Thats fine and I understand the point (and maybe even agree with it, although not really ), but its a little bit different than blaming Mykel for his play. And Mykel has shown that he is very good at stopping the run and setting the edge.

What I'm saying is if the front office comes out and says, "we like our defensive ends to set the edge", then they go draft a guy like that at #11 (and who has pretty much only bull rush with no pass rush plan), and the guy does set the edge....your gripe should be with the drafting philosophy and not the player who does on the field exactly what he was drafted to do...

That is exactly my issue. I thought i explained as much. I've said a bazillion times Mykel is good at what he does. Its the pass rush hopefuls I respond too.

As for their philosophy yea...

Drafting a CB(Reed) to play FS. Then a round or so later taking a FS(Moore) to play CB.

Drafting a DT(Thomas) to play DE.

Drafting a QB at #3 Who has to learn how to play QB (Lance) I'll never understand this one

EDIT: Drafting Kinlaw to replace Defo. I liked trading Defo but using that pick to pick that exact position was never going to work. That player was never going to live up to Defo. Kinlaw was put in an impossible position IMO

Drafting a DE at #11 to set the edge.

Yea I haven't agreed with their philosophy for a while to say the least. This year's draft is liked. 2024 i liked.

What about drafting an MVP candidate with the last pick of the draft? Or what about scoring on guys like Valdez and Halton?

Do I know you? Who are you? Lol!
We should be a little patient with Mykel. I think he'll come around as a really good run stopper and pash rusher. He's got the physicality and he seems to have the right mindset. In my opinion, he's just scratching the surface right now. Provided he keeps himself healthy throughout the season (knock on wood), after maybe 5 or 6 more games, we'll start to see a better version of him.

We badly needed run defence help 2 years ago and we got the best defensive end against the run in the draft.

People see the term "defensive end" and think Aldon Smith. That's not Mykel's game or who he was drafted to be.

In his limited action so far in his career Mykel is as advertised.

I completely concur. Its others who seem to think he's going to all of a sudden be something else.

Was this really worth the #11 pick? I doubt it. Imagine when Bosa comes back, what kind of playing time e he gonna get? Last year kicking him inside on passing downs was the plan. You cant play him over Halton or Osa inside. He's not an outside guy. He's essentially a depth piece at this point. At least on obvious passing downs. So yea!

He's critical on run downs to set up third and longs.

He will enable them to rotate K White and even Bosa.

Halton and Osa aren't playing 100% of all snaps

He's going to be a critical piece of the defensive line. He already had an impact in Seattle.

Don't worry about his stat sheet and sacks - worry about how he impacts the game.

Nope a guy with less than a year full of starts is best hell ever be.

Meanwhile a 6th year QB just needs the right situation to take off.

Mykel was drafted at 20 years old. He's a very young player and actually still the youngest player on the roster(not sure about PS guys)

He got robbed of the critical post rookie year offseason due to the knee injury. His story is far from written. We've seen a lot of guys with his type of skillset start slow then turn into really good players.

I'm going to throw out some names - don't come running in claiming Mykel isn't them. Simply a comparison.

Rashan Gary
Greg Roussau
Jason Pierre-Paul

Similar athletic profile/size. Obviously some different skills but all of those guys were kind of disappointing as rookies as far as pass rushers but ended up turning into really good players using their size well to create hell for QBs.

And i have this "weird thing" with Mykel?

You come running to his defense at every chance you get.

Halton AT 22 and only 5 games people are saying he should have been drafted HIGHER judging by his play.

If anyone questions Mykel's draft position his age, lack of experience and all these comps come out of who he could be.

If fans can give a 22 year old Halton his praise for his play after 5 games. Why cant a 22 year old Mykel be criticized for his play after 10?

Why? Because of the people with their "weird thing" with Mykel.

In your opinion as we sit here today do you feel Mykel has lived up to the #11 pick?

Honestly what are you babbling about? There isn't a single thing I said which isn't factual.

I didn't claim Mykel is going to be a HOF player. I simply pointed out his youth, his athletic profile and mentioned several players with similar skill sets who didn't come out playing like All Pros.

Maybe calm down and stop being so concerned about 11th overall pick. Why would I say he lived up to that pick when the kid tore his ACL in week 9 as a rookie? Thankfully we didn't draft him just for his rookie season.

Breathe.

Williams is by no means a finished product, I don't understand why you would think he is. If you're just pissed because your guy got passed over by the team, just get over it man. If anyone is being wierd about Williams, it's you man.

You guys are the ones who keep thinking its about them not picking my guys. Its about them picking guys that cant do what you typically want from the position.

My 2 biggest gripes. They picked a QB who can't throw at #3 in hopes that he'll learn how IN THE PROS. They picked a DE at #11 that can't rush the passer. With hopes that he'll suddenly learn how IN THE PROS. Dude is never going to be some pass rush guy but I have to continue to read these ridiculous comps to try to make him look better than he is.

I like Mykel for what he is. My weird thing isn't about Mykel himself. My weird thing is about the posters who want to prop him up.

Most generally when you have to use a players age for any sort of justification you're probably going to get a reaction out of me. Because A: it means that guy hasn't lived up to the billing. B: its the stupidest attribute you can use in making a case for a prospect. IMO

It's not like you have a track record of this with players you don't find as the right pick or anything.

And you can gripe all you want but the NFL is full of players who have to develop before they break out. Age and experience is part of that.

So you can get all hot and bothered about me or others bringing up his age and experience and stomp your feet complaining about him being picked at 11 but it is a factor.

The kid led Georgia in sacks as an 18 year old freshman. You continue to cry about him not being good enough to be picked at 11 and the rest of us will see how he looks as time goes on.

First game back from ACL and you're in here acting like because he didn't get 3 sacks the guy was terrible. On brand.
Finally got real game time reps against a good team and came out healthy...... This is an absolute win! Now just stack days and get better each week!
