What really sucks is that MetLife will have natural grass for the World Cup soccer games next year, as per FIFA mandate, but will convert back to turf after the games are over.

Playing soccer on artificial turf is really bad, worse than football. Besides having a lot more short sprints/acceleration where turf doesnt provide as much give, soccer ball also is affected by the surface and it becomes very bouncy. You also have to play in different cleats. Soccer player really hate the artificial turf most of the time.

Not to mention World Cup will be in the middle of summer when it can get real hot.

The advantage of turf is really all about how cheap and easy it is to maintain in all kinds of temperatures and scenarios. Ie, its always about the $$$ and convenience.

I coached high school and club soccer for a number of years. We had to play on turf fields a few times. The players hated it. It changed the game.
If the Niners make the playoffs, Kyle should win COTY. I don't care if it's as the 7th seed and because of an easier schedule. No team should ever make the playoffs with these amount of injuries and to such key players. And we are not talking about 1 or 2 week injuries. Season enders and other longterm injuries.

Looks like Mykel tore his meniscus as well

It didn't even look like anything happened. He was just locked up with a guy. But that could happen I guess. Because there is huge torque and force there with those big bodies. I thought he just fell to the ground and bumped his knee. That's what it looked like at first.

Im with you unless Carolina also makes the playoffs and If the Colts manages to get the #1 seed i can see either of them getting it as well

I don't know if articial truf can be blamed for all these injuries. Wed had just as many stadiums usingit in the 1`970s and *80s and there weren't this many injuries. The turf back then wasn't nearly as good as the stuff they use now. It was hard as rock.

As an old guy that attended over 350 games in SF I can tell you that injuries weren't nearly the issue that they are now. When we we doing the 40 minute drive to and from Candlestick we weren't listening to a lot of talk on the pre and post game shows about injuries. Today half the talk is about who's playing and who's out. After the game the talk is about who got injured as nuch as the game itself.

The league keeps adding new rules to cut down on injuries but they aren't addressing the real issue. Players are just too big and fast now. Players used to be able to tackle in ways that are banned now and we didn't see as many devastating injuries as we do now. Yes there were some bad ones but not as many. It seems like every game I watch now someone is getting taken off the field on a cart.

The biggest change othewr than rules has been the size of the players. Not so much the skill players but the linemen. O line is now 30-50 lbs heavier per man on average. D line is also bigger by 20-40 lbs. . The result is more violent collisions. Even if a guy that big falls on you accidently you're more likely to get injured. Bones and ligaments can only take so much stress before they break.

I don't know how the league can control this other than to tell players to cut back on supplements and start getting down to a more reasonable size. It shouldn't be that hard. Many lineman get smaller once they stop training. Joe Staley is a shadow of his old self. The problem is these big guys and the violent collisons sell tickets. It's an issue that needs to be taken up between owners and the players association. Both sides would benefit if they could cut down on the serious injuries.

I think the league trying to justify a longer schedule by mandating that practices be lighter and take a less toll on players bodies is also a reason. A lot of these players rely on their own trainers / diets on the offseason then come to camps where they have time limits on practices etc. So their bodies may be in good shape but not exactly in football shape. Agreed that bigger faster players also contributes though…
Aaaaaaaaahhhhhh, Son of a b***h how much more can this team take without breaking
The bigger players are a factor. If you go way back in the day you had 285 lbs. offensive linemen. 240 lbs. - 250 lbs. DE's like Haley. A huge, powerful DE like Mykel Williams is 6'5" + and 270 lbs. With real long arms. Going up against some offensive linemen who is probably 6'6" 335 lbs. or something. That's just so much torque and force on the joints when they lock up. In a way you can increase muscle size and strength. But the joints are a fixed environment. Only so much torque, force, twisting, weight can be applied. It has a breaking point. Artificial turf and these huge guys now a days may be a double whammy. Just more than the joints can allow. Especially if a leg locks up on the turf. They probably are too big and too strong now a days to hold up. The turf just makes it even worse.
At least it was a clean tear and be will make a full recovery

I still don't see anything there. He looks fine. Just like he did in the game.

Look at how he planted his right foot and try to change direction. All that torque snapped his acl.

Yeah but clean acl. Meniscus is not a huge deal, in terms of knee injuries . Still sucks
