The Team that trades for Mac also has to sign him. He's not gonna start for 5 million.

Not necessarily true, no indication from anyone so far that needs to happen. What we do know is that Mac Jones wants to start.

Maybe you're right. It'll be interesting to see how high the bidding goes 🤑

Either way, Mac Jones will be paid. If he plays bad, at worse he be low-balled into a prove it deal. If he plays good, at worst he'll be franchised.
The team trading for Mac doesn't have to give him a new deal. It's not like he has leverage to hold out.

Unfortunately for Mac he signed a 2 year deal. Nobody is going to give him a "raise" and he's not in position to hold out for starter money on a new team.

The appeal for Mac is a chance to start and make a ton of $ the following year either with that team or as a FA.

If Mac absolutely wants a new deal with any new team, then he's not going to be traded and will be a backup in SF again.

If we expect a worthwhile trade offer, it's likely to come with a new deal for Mac.
This draft looks weak at qb so maybe we will get a strong offer.

Also can't believe teams would rather take two QB's who are as injury prone as they come over a QB who went 5-3!!! Jimmy G did less and the Pats still got a 2nd round pick.

Someone please let me know if I'm being biased. lol

I agree. While every year is different this draft looks pretty bad at QB. You would think some team feels the same, then they see Mac sitting there.... yeah, I think the odds they get a strong offer are greater than usual given the circumstances.
Welp the keep Mac Jones crowd might get their wish. Not much of a market for him

I'd wait for the QB injuries to start piling up around the league.

Jimmy was an unknown in the league, there was upside. He started like less than five games with the pats IIRC

People and teams know exactly what Mac is and what Mac isn't. He started like 60 games in the league. If he was a FA, that would be one thing. But to give up something of value for a rental QB who will be a FA next year...and who isnt the future, is a tough sell.

That's why he will get a new contract. No team is going to give up draft picks for him and only wind up to be a one-year rental. It's a win-win for both parties.

Didn't the 49ers give up a 2nd round pick without signing Jimmy G to a contract at the time of the trade?

I think people are overrating what they think Mac Jones is worth to teams. A team willing to trade draft capital for Jones AND signi him to a new contract, must see him as the starting QB for the next 2 years at the very least. I dont see that kind of interest from teams.

This reminds me vaguely of Jimmy in 2022. When he didnt fetch anything on the market at all even though FO thought he could.

Now, Mac is younger than Jimmy but it's a similar situation.

Jimmy G didnt have seasons worth of s**t QB play like Mac Jones does.
