How much are you willing to pay Brock Purdy before letting him go?

A Baker Mayfield deal makes sense. 2 years at $30 M per year. A prove it deal. With an out for the team. If he proves it you can pay him more after that. A Dak Prescott deal after that. No question we were much worse with the injuries. Not all on Brock. But still you have to be cautious here. I like Brock. Just saying be careful with an out.
Mayfield is a unicorn. He had fallen off the charts but finally came back to play closer to expectations. His current deal represents a guy who, at the time, was considered to be a short-term bridge to a better guy. The fact that he has played well is a bonus. If he were to be extended this off-season, he would be in the $50+ range based on performance.

If you really don't want Purdy or have no faith in him for the future, as your posts suggest, then the starting figure should be in the Kirk Cousins range - $45M/yr.

The most realistic template is the Jordan Love deal - $55M/yr. In three years, when Stroud and the other rookie deals reset, Purdy will look like a bargain.

Bingo. IMO the market for Purdy is very clear and he's right in there with the 50-55m QB's, and those deals were done before the cap went up. I pegged the Goff 53m deal and you the Love 55m deal so yeah, that sounds right about where his value is. Question is if he wants that value but increased by the % the cap went up this year, or term, or guaranteed money.

I don't see any way that Purdy doesn't get at least a percentage of the cap increase over the Love deal. Purdy has shown to be more efficient than Love in a wider range of situations. Hence, I believe the deal will sit around $58-60M/yr. Length, guarantees, incentives- all that stuff is hard to guess, but the bottom line is that Purdy will get a nice contract that will look very good over the next 4-5 years.
I don't have to pay him anything.

Neither do you.

No young QB should take a lesser contract because fans think they should.
I wouldn't pay him s**t.

Play the last year of your contract and we'll see next year.
2 of the 8 QB's listed here have been to the Big Dance and only 1 of them has come out victorious...Jalen Hurts. The avg pay comes out to roughly $53m. I don't know what the Niner's top number is, I'm just hoping Purdy is looking at the team and knows he needs good (great) players around him to be successful. That being said, I believe $53m is a good number and that allows the Niners to maintain and obtain good (great) players.

This theory makes more sense in baseball where there isn't a cap. That's not the case in football. For example, I couldn't care less how much we pay coaches, but when it comes to players whatever money is allocated for x position becomes less you can allocate at positions a,b, and c.

That said I agree players should push for the maximum amount of money they can get and teams should do the opposite where possible.

Yep, don't know why a lot of peeps are in such an uproar over this. Mahomies contract from 2020 was 45M per year on average. That is dirt-cheap now. In 4-5 years, Purdy's contract will be dirt-cheap. And with the cap ever-increasing, is it really going to matter much? If anything, we need to get the next few year's of draft picks right. That will definitely lessen the blow of these QB cap-eating contracts.

Otherwise is everyone willing to pay some free agent QB maybe ten million less to be our starter?

Sam Darnold
Justin Fields
Mac Jones
Jimmy G (rofl)
Cooper Rush
Russell Wilson
Trey Lance (lmao)
This whole thing about paying Purdy makes it sound like a deal must get done this year. He's still got one more year on his contract. They can wait if his agent plays hardball. Then it's up to Purdy to have a good year so he can be in a good postion to negotiate next year whether it's with the Niners or some other team. I suspect he would prefer to stay in SF with Kyle and his QB friendly system. If he doesn't have a good season then the ball is in the 49ers court and they can either sign him for a slightly lower amount or move on to a free agent or a draft pick. It's kind of a gamble for both sides but a bigger one for Brock.

I don't care how much Jed pays him. Just get it done.
60 in the market right now seems fair though on the high end. 65 seems rather excessive.
