Thank you for your post. But I personally think Lynch said it best when he said the rough year has been the result of an undisciplined team.

I don't disagree with this. Leaders don't accept excuses and continually search for ownership of what they can control. I would expect leadership to take ownership of the season and identify what they could have done differently to flio the outcome to something more positive. The vast majority of what is listed above can be classified as random acts of chaos that aren't controlled.
I agree with you that discipline is one controllable factor that could easily be the difference between 7-5 instead of 5-7.

Very true. Because of poor discipline, we lost at Rams, home against AZ and home against Seattle. And it's a reflection of the coach.

Coaching discipline can minimize penalties (we must lead the league in having 12 men on the field), minimize turnovers, minimize missed tackles, minimize blown assignments on offense and defense, and correct uniformly terrible special teams play.

Let's do a recap of what the team has had to endure. I will try and do these in order
The above alone is difficult to navigate. We can point to coaching or depth as the problem, but a few rookies have stepped up. Unfortunately there is a lot to overcome above.
- Dre Greenlaw tears his Achilles in the Super Bowl
- Team endures a devastating overtime loss to arguably the greatest QB to play
- Brandon Aiyuk holdout
- CMC tendinitis
- Javon Harhrave to IR
- Brandon Aiyuk to IR
- Lose two place kickers in two games; punter to IR
- Fred Warner plays thru broken bone in ankle
- Nick Bosa injured and no idea for how long
- Purdy misses a game with a shoulder injury; no idea as to the severity
- CMC to IR
- Jordan Mason to IR
Then consider the following trauma:
- Ricky Pearsall shot in the chest
- Charvarius Ward personal tragedy
- Trent Williams personal tragedy
When it rains it pours but the last list should put in perspective that this is just a game and these are young men managing a lot. The game should be an outlet for all of us to escape life's hardships. We can use sports to escape our daily grind and cope with trauma and setbacks. Unfortunately, the game is their job and a high stress one at that.
I am guilty of overreacting to what has been a disappointing season. After reflecting on the year, I regret my emotional outbursts and have a betrer understanding of the result. Anyone calling for firings may want to reconsider the circumstances behind this season. Who could have navigated the above and overcome it?
Interesting post, but grim as it is, it doesn't go far anough. I would remove number 2, events like this come under the heading of Sh¥t Happens every season and can be discounted, in my view. Likewise #3, the Aiyuk holdout.
However, in addition to your list, Jon Feliciano, a key part of the O line, was lost and may not return.
In addition to CMC and Jordan Mason, Elijah Mitchell went on I/R.
As did Tallanoa Hufuanga.
Drake Jackson went in the Physically Unable to Perform list. There are others on I/R as well, but the point is, unlike other years when our injury list has been crippling numerically, this year again and again key players have been ruled out. You can plug in replacements when the need arises, but if the losses are your key players, you face ever increasing problems. Individual positions such as running back have been decimated. Right now our depth is a practice squad player who is one hit away from being the only running back on the squad.
There are other issues. The Defensive coaching staff needs to be closely scrutinised and, in two cases, replaced in my view. I am not sure about the causes of the lack of discipline but with key players like Fred Warner and Trent Williams either out or struggling with injuries or personal problems, the players that you would look to see pushing personal discipline are not on the field.
I think that the entire team must hold their hands up this year. But the posters calling for Shanahan and Lynch's heads are, in my view, entirely wrong. And should know better. I see that Purdy has now become one of the whipping boys, which just goes to show that it doesn't know how well you do, when things fall apart some fans just lash out at anyone regardless of their recent performances.
I wish I could explain the injury crisis but I can't and I haven't seen anyone yet who can. We no longer draft Baalke players who bring in an injury history, for the most part.
I don't think that any coach including Bill Walsh could have coped and brought success to a team with the list of injuries and other problems outlined above, though.

It even goes back to OTAs and training camp. Contract hold outs, players not ready for camp, not participating for most of TC. Team never was on the same page day 1.
I dont think some Wzbzer respect the disruption caused by CMC, TW and BA. "Just happy they got paid"

Personal tragedies aside (my heart goes out to Mooney, TW, and Ricky):

Many of the problems we are seeing now were evident last season (and some the season before that). Having splash plays from big stars and running up big early leads on bad teams helped cover them up, but they were there to see for those who looked. And the FO refused to address them in the offseason.

The key part ofwhat you say is "can minimize". That doesn't mean they can eliminate them. Coaching stops on Friday. Once the game starts it's up to the players. When some of the team leaders aren't plaing then things start to break down. Discipline is one of those things.

I actually forgot that the Cowboys were marching down the field after "the Catch" and it took a defensive sack to end their momentum. They were almost in FG range to beat us. We would have forgotten about the Catch if Dallas scored, and we would not have won our 1st Superbowl
So for next season we can't go in with this same mindset and DC. We can't be vanilla with no pressure and prevent Ds. I really believe if we had a better defensive plan and calls all those games we coughed up in the 4th qtr we would have won. Our outlook this season would be much different.
