Do we need to re-tool or Full rebuild?

Just reread the first 2 pages. Some of the same ole doom and gloomers. OP wanted to get rid of all the vets and SanDiego raved about how the Lions rebuilt the trenches and look at them a year later, wouldn't even make the playoffs if the season ended today.

I guess the answer was to retool.

Both paths could be failures, what are you talking about? LOL. End of the day, this team is OLD and INJURED. People like to assume, oh Bosa and Warner will be back to their all-star selves next year. You can't assume that.

By not going all in this year, with a weak schedule, Super Bowl at your house, Saleh on staff, they punted for a couple years. I honestly don't see them competing again until maybe 2027. By then Trent is probably gone, Juice is probably gone, CMC is a shell of himself, Jennings probably gone, Kittle is OLD. They should have been moved at the deadline.

So you think they'll start competing again AFTER their best players are gone? How exactly aren't they competing this season?

What are you talking about? People acted like the 49ers basically threw in the towel on this season and it was a rebuild year(aka when you sell off your best talent and basically plan for the future)

Meanwhile the team is on their bye week at 9-4 and got that record despite being incredibly injured and missing 3 all pro level players from their team for the rest of the season(Bosa, Warner and Aiyuk)

The reality is this team was built to win this year even if we didn't realize it at the time. Also claiming this team is OLD and INJURED when Mykel Williams is out with a knee injury and is the youngest player on the team.

The bold part is one of the worst takes I've seen around here...and I've seen a lot of bad ones.

All due respect we should hope we don't have to see IG and Jordan James. Watkins is a rookie and Kyle is notoriously tough on rookie WRs. Cowing is still injured so bringing him back requires a roster spot.

While I personally would love to see more speed at WR out there, team may see a "if it's not broke, don't fix it" situation. I figured the obvious spot for Cowing was replacing Sky Moore but he's stepped up big time on special teams so you can't get rid of him. Bourne would be the guy I'd send to the sidelines but Kyle may have his vet preference there.

Moore is certainly a better return man than Cowing. I seem to recall him slipping and falling a lot on returms last season. He didn't do much. The Niners always have a WR that fans keep hoping will be great when they get healthy. The problem is they never get healthy.
Exactly. I was more hoping for the speed aspect with cowing or watkins I rewatched the browns game and I thought the WR's were getting no seperation.

Yes, the speed element is lacking for sure. I do think Pearsall is still not back to what he was early this year. Someone mentioned how it took Puni a bit to get his legs back under him and he's not running routes out there.

But for anyone who watched the game last night - Jameson Williams or a guy like that adds so much to the Lions. It's what Aiyuk brought to our offense and cleared out so much due to his presence that had to be accounted for on the outside and due to his speed.

I know Kyle understands this and maybe he doesn't see Watkins or Cowing ready to offer that threat yet but we do need a legit X WR out there to really open up the offense.

I have been a little shocked out how Ricky has not been getting open.

I think you may be right that he isn't all they way back yet.

Who knows the players they draft the first year half of them don't hit the field to see if they can contribute.

I want full retool and partial rebuild options!

Especially the CMC is a shell of himself.

What are you talking about? This thread was made at this time LAST YEAR and that's what my post is referring too.
I think the better question is can we get lucky again?

What I mean is, most of our superstars are homegrown: Kittle, Warner, Bosa, Purdy, JJ, B.A., D.L.
With a few free agents thrown in early to make it work: Trent Williams, Juice, CMC.

If we can build through the draft and then fill holes via free agency, we will be fine. I just don't like having to pay F.A to come in, I like the idea of paying our own guys to stay after they earn it (Remember Buckner/Kinlaw/Hargrave?).

I am all for the big name free agents from time to time like T.W & CMC, but I like guys like Juice who don't command a huge contract.

Wait, so we should have moved all of these guys(TW, Juice, CMC, Jennings & Kittle)? Why cause they're older? Wow this makes zero sense, and I've never understood the whole "All In" crap, it never works, Philly did it and didn't do s**t, Detroit looks nothing like they did the past 2yrs, so I don't get it, you don't need to go "All In" when you have a team that actually looks good, and can win games, I think not dealing for Hendrickson was the right move seeing how he's out for the season, not giving up multiple 1sts for anyone was the right move, I just don't get fans sometimes, never happy, like now ppl want Burrow, really? Not when we lose significant cap room by dealing Brock & adding Burrow plus trading away Aiyuk.

I like this approach, draft well, add players via FA who don't cost a fortune, and don't give out big deals to guys who are clear problems like Deebo & now Aiyuk.

Better what it with the Juice not commanding a lot cause some are gonna say you can't pay a FB what he gets even though it's less than I think $5.5M a year but that's me, never had an issue with the Juice deal(s).
