The QB Joe Montana replaced in the 4th Quarter of a pre season game to execute an End Around inside the 3 yard line.

So I am glad I stumbled upon the story.

QUESTION 18, probably next Wednesday, the 26th. Same time.
As of now, the question I have in mind to use will be a tricky one.
(unless I change my mind and go with something else)

Love these kind of stories.

As well as the different embedded ownership by certain towns and citiesfolk of college or NFL teams. It's such a cultural phenomenon.

I''l be back to see how quick the brilliant and good man SmokeyJoe or the whippersnapper Kizray are next week.
Keep em coming.

Hey KRO. What do you recall about Guy Benjamin and the particular play?
I am curious about which preseason year this may have been. And against who?

It's a great question and Guy is just a guess for the Chargers game 1982. Guy ended his career injured so there is that. But this is before my time as a fan and Joe Montana was only just reaching where I live as legendary name. Jo Namath the only one I knew at that time.
Knowing 9moon is a legend on this forum, I figured he was throwing out one that only the local loyal fans would know. They used to get 40-50,000 per preseason game.
But Guy was an interesting story nonetheless. The Union rep during the strike years. Backing up one the greatest ever QBs would have been interesting.

So I went and looked him up. I do have some vague recollection of Guy Benjamin. I sifted this from his Wiki page. I am fascinated by all the football efforts that are and have been through the years (the bolded leagues):

Athletes United for Peace
Sports in Society Institute at the New College of California
its degree-completion program for former student-athletes.
World Indoor Football League's Las Vegas Aces
Arena Football League
Indoor Professional Football League
Executive Director of the Hawaii Medical College.

Glad you brought him up KRO!

Now, I have a question.
Why is Joe Montana coming into a preseason game in the 4th quarter, to execute an end-around inside the 3-yard line?

No one else left when he got injured?

He? Who? Guy Benjamin?
So from what I gather, Guy Benjamin, if he is the guy, got injured in the preseason game, and the 49ers had no else except J. Montana to come in and finish the game?
I'm not trying to be smart-aleck or anything.
But Thanks.

This is an instance where I wish this was a real Jeopardy like contest and each contestant had just one shot at answering correctly.

(But feel free to try again SmokeyJoe. Or anyone.)
I'll say it now: Stumping SmokeyJoe on his first attempt has gotten to feel almost like beating Fischer, or Spassky, in a chess game.
