Cowing is a 4th round pick who flashes every time the team used him as a WR last year. Coaches talked about how great he looked and how much he took advantage of the offseason.

You can't control injuries sometimes. No reason to cut the kid. Put him on IR and let him heal up. Like what do you think we're even saving by cutting him?

Flashes?
How many catchess last YEAR?

I'm sure you can look it up easy enough.

Be sure to check how many targets while doing so. That should help you figure out what flashes every time the team used him as a WR…

Feel free to check preseason as well.

Thought you would know more since he is flashing. Would you describe the flashes to be more like lightning or the red emergency type.

I'd say he's flashed a good handful of times more as a WR than your posts have flashed any value around here.

He flashed right to 6-11, why do we keep making these guys out to be all pro's?

It's ok to be critical of our young players until they earn something.

Show me where he's being made out to be an all pro? Some of you guys are so dramatic and over the top with this stuff.

Simply saying calling the guy a bust or looking to cut him right now is stupid.

Cowing played in 2 preseason games last year these were his numbers
Game2: 4 catches for 51 yards on 5 targets(led team), 1 run for 19 yards
Game 3: 3 catches for 39 yards on 3 targets

Here is a video showing the plays.

He was used very infrequently as a WR during the season, likely because he didn't understand where he had to be consistently. However he had 80 yards on 4 receptions on 6 targets.

You had the coaches talking about his growth going into year 2...and because he got hurt and couldn't show anything tangible this year after the improvement(after showing it last year in preseason) people are calling for him to get cut...for what rational reason? What are you even being critical of if not just the injury which can happen to anyone?

How do you go from someone saying a player "showed flashes" to being that they think they are all-pro?

It's okay to see the positives AND the negatives about a player. And if someone only talks about the negatives, someone saying something positive about a player should not be seen as necessarily denying the negative, let alone being so hyperbolic as to go from "flashes" to "all-pro".

Exactly.

I used to show "flashes" in high school, but damn after gaining 30 pounds and now growing a bologna patch pattern bald spot that not even a comb over can fix, I'm just not able to show the same "flashes" that I used to…….sheesh, life's cruel humor I suppose.

Do you ... uh ... have to inform your new neighbors when you move? I don't think those were the "flashes" being talked about.
The best ability is availability...

At some point the niners have to stop hoping on injury prone players. If he comes back and gets hurt again they should be moving on.

How do you define an "injury prone player"? Is one injury enough? Do they have to miss games, or just being on the injury report?

The reality is that an injury or 5 does not mean that player is going to keep getting injured. Steph Curry had chronic glass ankles but responded to his glass ankles with a fairly healthy first ballot hall of fame career.

Ricky Pearsall missed some camp time with a hamstring tweak 2 years and was shot and people are certain he's "injury prone" despite having played 55 games in college.

Kittle has averaged 2 missed games a year for his career ... is he injury prone?

What we know is that Cowing is not good at getting in to camp in a place where his hamstrings can take it. He might learn how to manage it going forward, or he might not ... but we don't know. I feel like the NFL severely restricting player/team interactions over the off-season makes it harder for young players than it need be.
Cowing never missed a game in college either I don't believe.
They say it's year 2 where WRs figure it out. Hoping they Cowing gets better and contributes and if Ricky gets better then he's putting up WR1 numbers.

What makes him injury prone? The team put emphasis on drafting guys who are NOT injury prone. Cowing was one of them.

Hamstrings can happen to anyone. If it continues to be an issue sure…but right now it's an unfortunate injury and not something that's been a chronic problem with him.

Besides how many times have we had people on here call for Jimmie Ward and Arik Armstead to be cut every time they'd get injured early in their careers? Cowing certainly doesn't have the same level of cost attached to him but clearly it's pretty early to cut him cuz of the injury stuff.

Young quick twitch athletes really frequently have hamstring issues early in their careers.
