Isaac Guerendo-RB-Louisville 2024 NFL Draft

What's crazy is how much we've allocated towards RB and we don't have a #2 that we can hang our hat on unbelievable.

That's why they draft RB's in the third round every year and get RB UDFA's every year. Hope we don't get any more injuries until February 15, 2027,

He had an uphill battle even if he didn't tear his pec. Assuming he's able to get back late training camp he's way behind the 8 ball.

If anything I thought maybe he could be a trade candidate. At this point unless he's able to show up late and show enough to impress another team he's likely a cut where we get nothing for him.

All we can hope is Black breaks the cycle of failures in the middle rounds at RB. Sounds like he's coming in with the goal to do just that.

Honestly Shanahan seems to have better success with veteran RB's than drafted ones. Seriously if Kaelon Black doesn't work out and have at least one 1,000 yard season. Then please stop drafting them for a while and start signing veteran RB's.

It's early but at least we're hearing positive things about Kaelon. Both in how he looks in the passing game and how he's acting in the meetings/media.

I still think part of the issue we had with those early backs has been more upstairs vs their talent level.

Sermon I believe we chose because of the Lance pick. I think most were surprised by the pick because he didn't seem like a typical Shanahan RB. Had issues with vision and decisiveness and just couldn't handle the system we ran. I think he may still be in the league but obviously not playing any real snaps.

TDP was an overreaction to our inability to gain the 2nd and short/3rd and short vs the Rams in that NFCCG. But you can't spend a 3rd round pick on a guy for short distance only. It's great that he hardly ever had negative plays but that's just a really poor way to spend draft capital.

Guerendo actually looked pretty good as a rookie even though he had some issues with vision(seemed like he picked it up towards the end of the season) but injuries weren't helping him and then not sure what happened last year.

Don't forget Joe Williams who he pounded the table for. But his sister died and Williams heart and mind just wasn't into being a NFL RB. So Shanahan kinda gets a pass I guess.

True that one was a terrible idea from the start. We had him off the draft board for a reason. Should've stuck with that.

Also I think it was Solly's sister dying that threw off his career. Williams' sister died a few years before so it wasn't an unknown curve ball that the 49ers couldn't account for.

When I saw them play, they looked indecisive and slow. I was disappointed in their play. To me, I think Kyle was getting more read option running backs when drafting TDP and Sermon - than true outside zone running backs - when he thought Trey was the chosen one. Guerrendo was more typical of Kyle's wide zone running backs, now that Brock is the chosen one. I think thats one reason Guerrendo did substantially better than TDP or Sermon in his rookie year.
