Who will be the Niners new DC?-Rooney Rule Now Applicable

The Dolphins defense was not their problem down the stretch. He did a good job for them especially after having to deal with several key injuries on that side of the ball. Vic Fangio runs a proven system that works in the NFL.

I don't want Fangio because our personnel doesn't match his system. I am just saying the Eagles now have a competent coaching staff and are going to be better and more consistent on both sides of the ball next year. That may not necessarily translate to more wins but they aren't going to have some epic collapse like they did in 2023.
This is taking longer than I expected. I was hoping Kyle had someone ready to move in and take the job. Apparently that wasn't the case unless they hit a snag.

give me the pattern matching of a Vic fangio defense any day over this…. We do what we do b******t. We don't disguise, we don't deceive, we line up in the same s**t all game long and hope our players make more plays than theirs. It works…. Until it doesn't.

Mahomes beat Fangios defense twice this past season.

Mahomes also beat the top ranked Ravens 3-4 defense this past season.

He didn't beat their defense. Lamar Jackson choked. The ravens shut him down.

Mahomes was held scoreless for 4 quarters aside from a gifted muff punt. I think our defense did pretty well

This.

And that was with one of our better players on D, Greenlaw, missing most of the game.

Well I guess my post about Richard Sherman as a great out of the box candidate is now a giant fail. Ooops.

Nah, Sherm is a good guy. He f**ked up but then again if I had to sit across Skip Bayless every month I'd be drinking a lot as well.

I think Sherm would make an excellent coach, just not a DC. He should be on the staff at some capacity to learn the ropes…

He always seemed like a smart guy but I think he has a lot of personal issues we don't know about. That video from his front door cam a couple years ago was pretty bad.
Pretty sure Sherm is financially set to the point where he can order an Uber from his phone in an effort to avoid getting popped for DUI. Not making the wisest choices evidently. I think he needs to get his life straightened out before we hand him the keys to the defense. Work out his personal issues and bring him on as a defensive assistant to help coach DBs, sure why not.
Whoever gets the nod - I hope he returns to the Saleh/Ryans D that cause such havoc.

I wonder if Chargers will release Mack for cap reasons - He'd do for us what Lazy Chase couldn't do.

Mack would also be much cheaper. We could have guys like Beal backing him up.

I think that because of the time it is taking to hire a DC. Hey I want to be wrong here. But for the love of god I sure don't want Staley.

Honestly I'd take Staley over Wilks and that just might be the case. Not that I'm advocating for it, my guy is Vrabel, but why don't you want Staley? People can look to LAC and how he ran that place, but Staley wouldn't be in charge in SF. So what's to worry??

I would be one pissed off fan if he hired Staley that is a lateral move at best he may be worse than wilks.

Why would you be pissed off?? Is Staley too conservative or aggressive? Just he treat his player like s**t and has no control of the locker room? Does Staley have bad judgment when scouting players?? Does he not know how to game plan? What is it, it may seem like I'm advocating for Staley but really, I just want to know why people would be pissed off if hired?

Cause he sucked eggs has a HC. And personally I don't think he would be a good fit. Heck the raiders scored 63 points on his defense.

Yes he sucked as a head coach, but the 49ers wouldn't be hiring him as a head coach. And why wouldn't he be a good fit, he worked well with McVay, a Shanahan disciple. Its not like McVay had to call a timeout to scold him about calling a play. And so what 63 points was scored on his defense, Saleh and Ryans gave up 40 points too, the only difference is the Raiders were driving up the score. And besides, the 49ers defense will be backed by a top 5 offense. I only wish Staley was the DC in this past Super Bowl.

I just don't want and would not like the hire. He may be fine for you and someone else but for me I just don't want the hire to be Staley.

Staley v Bullocks/Sorenson. I'd rather have Staley…

I'm thinking the same. We should have our new DC on board before the draft not after.

Nah. He's exceptional waste product at best.

Hiring internally after all this time would be a HUGE embarrassment. Only thing that justifies this wait is if it's for an external splash hiring with a lot of details to work out.

If we hire internally, add this along with not knowing the playoff OT rules to the "optical embarrassments for the team that just lost the Super Bowl" pile.

Ugh. We needed that win so, SO badly. I had a feeling in my heart that we didn't just watch a Super Bowl loss, but a franchise-crippling loss. So far it's looking pretty accurate
