Jake Moody-K-Michigan 3rd Round 2023 Draft

It's all irrelevant now, but look at the way Moody's right ankle twisted on this play. It hurts just to watch it.

for TV purposes, it did create some exciting drama to watch any routinely-made extra point or chip shot field goal every time he went out on the field.

that said, I hope field goals and chip shot extra points will become boring because they end up being so routinely executed from here on out.

My question is this: did the coaching staff NOT notice him missing in practice? Or was this a matter of him just CHOKING during the games? Why oh why did they hang onto him after last year? The team could easily be 0-1 right now just because of him.

Could be. He says he fully recovered. Still feel for the guy.
OTOH, for some reason I could never explain, I always thought he did not want to be on the team.
I wouldn't be surprised if he takes some time off to fully get healthy and comes back healthy, signs with a team where wants to be, and becomes an excellent kicker.

He was an inconsistent striker of the ball before this. He had missed clutch kicks before this.

F him.

When did he miss those? He was 13/14 prior to injury. He did have one kickoff go OB IIRC. Other than that, he was good.

In college he was the Lou Groza award winner. Never missed a PAT. Best kicker in the draft.

Though I understand why he had to go, but I feel bad for him personally. I hope he goes on to have success in the league...except when he plays us.

I feel for him as a person but as a player I have a hard time feeling bad for him. His stuff is all mental and it's got to be incredibly frustrating for the real players who have to be on mentally and physically and still have a tough time of it out there.

Like think about it. Just make your kicks. Dude doesn't have to worry about complex schemes. Just go out there and kick the dang ball.
FINALLY. I wouldn't have let him get on the plane with the team, buy him the cheapest Grey Hound ticket they have toss it at his dumb face and tell him to hit the road. Anyone got Robbie Gould's number?

he sucked before this though. not even counting preseason and where he kept just barely sneaking in field goals that should have been gimmes

I am not in the bad mouth the front office bucket of fans....but if we are going to be 100% real.....moody is not what I imagined a draft capital worthy kicked kicker would look like.

Average with opportunity does not equal elite...tht was my take on Moody....

The irony…..if he kicked the ball through the endzone on that play, he never takes that hit 👍🏼

Those numbers are a bit deceiving and make it sound like he has missed one kick in his career prior to the injury.

13/14 is just what he kicked prior to the injury in 2024. The Arizona game was fifth game of the season.

In 2023 season he was 21/25, which admittedly is solid (still he missed game winners like the cleveland game), but also he was only 6/8 from field and 8/9 from PAT in playoffs.

I feel same way.
I still don't understand how he was reliable and clutch in College. But suddenly forgot how to kick in the NFL. It's just baffling. If you can do it at some point you still should be able to. Some of it was the injury. It was up in his head huge too. He even changed his whole kicking form. Just a lot of stuff going on. He's gone and it doesn't matter to us. But it's somewhat strange to me.
