Phoenix, you like Joseph?

Why would the Cardinals want let go of Joseph at this point even if they know they won't him. Their division rivals are looking for a D-coordinator...They don't want him going there. The 49ers must already know who they want anyway and that they will available with all the coaches bring hired left and right.

If they don't want Joseph then he must not be good. Why would they care if a coach they don't want on their bottom of the division team goes to coach another team in the division? Didn't he help contribute to their garbage record?
If we hire Harris and he is any good, we will probably be right back in the situation we currently are in which is not necessarily a bad thing with all the picks we are accumulating. I think if we hire Wilks and he is successful, we might not have to worry about him leaving since he has got his shot a
couple of times now. He'll probably interview to satisfy the Rooney rule but I doubt get another shot unless he produces an all time great D.

Wilks is probably closer to a HC shot than Harris would be. Wilks had one year on a crap Cards team and got fired. He probably didn't handle himself in the best way but teams would definitely be willing to give him another look if he killed it as 49ers DC.
Harris would probably need to learn more about the X's and O's while Wilks is already seasoned.

You keep developing. The 49ers used to do this 30 years ago. As long as you keep smart people in the building. I actually prefer a coach who can move on because I want the 49ers to be seen as a place where a coach can advance their careers. Can't have both OC and DC locked down in perpetuity.

The silver lining with DC turnover is fresh ideas keep coming in

The league always adapts to the hottest D trend after a few years

If we keep bringing the top minds we stay on the cutting edge for the 2-3 years they are here
Seems many DC positions are being filled.

I think he's overrated. IMO

His defenses have always been middle of the pack and nothing spectacular like DeMeco Ryans.

I wouldn't think that Shanahan would hire him if he wasn't.

Yeah, not much of a Joseph fan, either.

I agree with this. Speaks volumes about the 49ers culture. But I think there is something to be said about continuity as well. Another year in Ryans' defensive system would have been exciting to see where he could have taken them next. This years defense was the best in the league or arguably so. Perhaps if he stuck around, not that he should have, but could we be looking at an all time great defense? Possibly

I'm sure it most likely be one or the other. Here's another interesting nugget about Chris Harris. In 2006 with the Bears, he played under Steve Wilks ( DB coach) who is also on consideration for our D.C. position, and with (get this) Robbie Gould . If you trace the Niners system, Steve Wilks, and Chris Harris' history back far enough all have ties to Lovie Smith/Monte Kiffen. Now I know there has been some evaluation for all listed, but my point is that both Wilks and Harris are probably good candidates to continue something similar to what we are already doing, which is something Kyle said he was looking for.

Good catch! Yeah Monte Kiffen is like Kyle's defensive father lol.

I feel like Kyle might be able to get both on the staff if they are down for it.

It's interesting, the connections you'll find with coaches when you dig into their resume's a little bit.

I also agree, but that is also why I prefer an offensive guy at head coach. We weren't very good early during his time here, but the Alex Smith situation perfectly encapsulates this. The constant turnover at O.C. stunted his growth for a while early on.
It has to be Harris, Wilks, or internal candidate other than Kocurek.
