CMC: Am I a WR or RB?

Man, you'd think the way people talk about this team on this forum they're fans of the Cowboys or Seahawks. "Trade everybody on the team, fire the entire front office and coaching staff, blow the whole thing up."

Not worth the money with his injury history. It's as simple as that.

Exactly. Every move so far had made sense, Banks too expensive for what he offers, deebo a shell of himself, hufanga not actually good and Injured, greenlaw injured, hargrave not good, Floyd and Collins both terrible against the run.

Then you come back to the question marks we are discussing. CMC injured and didn't look good last year. Aiyuk also injured question mark.

You don't see anybody saying to get rid of kittle or Warner even though Warner was playing through injury.

Every move so far has made some amount of sense.

It may seem like the teams being dismantled because there really are that many injury questions marks or overpaid players.

Trading him does make sense. This team is not going to be a playoff team this coming year. He will be 31 next year. They are rebuilding the roster so why not trade him while we can get a good return? If folks think we are are a serious contender this year they need a reality check. Nobody likes what we are seeing but I can understand why. It's just a reality of the salary cap era.
The question is more of a, who will trade anything of substance for him ? His contract is really expensive. His achilles could snap at any time.

If I'm a GM, why would I do that ? Unless I'm a real SB contender who needs an elite RB, and even then, questionable. Barkley and Henry as pickups carried a lot less risk than CMC now. CMC back when the 49ers traded for him, was far less questionable too.

This is the issue if you explore trading him now IMO.

You could theoretically trade him for a better return at the deadline next season… though it might be hard to see us doing that if we are in the mix for a playoff spot at that time.
Wonder what came first.....the achilles or the contract extension?
So we are paying a RB as though he is S. Barkley on a team that went 6-11? But we are looking to save $ while purging the roster.

Not sure how this makes sense.
What could we get for CMC? A 2nd round pick?

If so trade him.

I dont think you can get a second for him right now. Remember Niners gave up low 2nd, 3rd, 4th and a future fifth for a healthy CMC who was two years younger, didnt have achilles issues in either of his legs and had a manageable contract.

What?? His cap hit is $9m this year....it was higher when we acquired him from Carolina. If you trade him, none of the $$ is guaranteed on the new team. There is an easy out for us in 2026 ($8m dead $$). so I'm not sure how this isn't a "manageable contract"

I think you need a reality check. The NFC West is a wasteland so it's up for the taking. To say we are not going to be a playoff team is a little harsh. The cardinals stink and Kyler Murphy is on his last leg there. Seattle is rebuilding it seems and the cat is out of the bag for Sam Darnold. The Rams are meh. Maybe they will be a little better than us, but I like our chances with a lot of our players coming back from injury. Plus I'm hoping Brock is the guy.

Now is that reason to be excited that we're in a weak division? No. But if we don't win the West that probably means we will have 5 wins or less because I honestly think about 8-9 wins can take it. I think at minimum this is an 8-9 win team

We're not better than the rams at this point.

I don't know about that. I think it's close. Kupp is gone. Stafford is a year older. They have Nakua and Williams who are great. Verse is great. We also have some great players. I'm ok with you saying we're not better, but I think we're as good, if not better when we're healthy.

They have a solid team with knowns at starting roles across both sides of their team. We're rolling into 2025 with the potential of having 6-8 castoffs and rookies starting because we literally have to with the decisions our Ownership has made to spending.
