Yeah. Now we know, Jake not only blows at holding up against power, he is also screwing up the protections.
Which is the worst part of it all. If you have an undersized center that isn't great at the POA, let them at least have a tremendous football IQ and awareness to call protections and have the mental part of the game down pat but he's lousy at that too. There's nothing he does that a rookie couldn't replace.
Agree 100% -- It's horrific. I blame Forester the most and then Kyle and John. I know Trent likes coach Chris but the guy is an absolute clown when it comes to evaluating talent and choosing who should be out there. I mean FFS the guy was prepared to have BURFORD START AT RG OVER PUNI to start the year.
He also openly admitted he was responsible for bad run calls in the red zone that he pushed to install in the game plan. I'm getting worked up again just thinking about it.
I want him and Brian Schneider gone, along with his handpicked guys who shouldn't be starters or even on the team.

I agree but not with the latter. We know they tried to get a better center, but when it didn't happen they gave this guy a 4 year deal lol They could have taken like 4 centers in this draft alone.. abysmal
They did take one from Michigan. Nugent may be good but he needs to add weight and strength if he's going to anchor an NFL line.
We had countless opportunities to get a center. I wanted Zach Frazier. We passed. I wanted Jackson Powers Johnson. We passed. I wanted Beau Limmer. We passed. I would've been good with Bortolini. Again.. Passed. And all of them are doing well as rookies. Really freaking sucks that we failed to get a center of the future in one of the most stacked classes in freaking years.
I did want to get Nugent as a developmental option. At least we did that, but he wasn't likely to help us this year.

He can't hold his own against any kind of power whatsoever. This guy needs to go back to being a backup.
Give me a wide bodied guy with quick feet and a strong base. I like Nugent, but to be perfectly honest, he's very similar to Brendel in terms of play strength. More squatty, but wasn't the most powerful on tape at Michigan.
A few years too late but we'll finally get our wish in the draft. Absolutely mind boggling. We're not in the position we're in now if we followed your advice.
And it's not just him, I would expect more from a long time coach who said, "invest in guys that touch the ball, guys that can touch the ball and score touchdowns." Look where that got us.

Yup. They need to put some serious investment into this position.

Fortunately there's a few pretty good centers in this upcoming draft.
The 49ers won't take them either.

Brock Purdy and Zach Frazier would've been friends for life. Instead he's stuck with a douche bag in Russell Wilson. Damn you Shanahan why!!!!

Wow. I just watched the johneydel video on YouTube where he goes over film from the previous week. It's shocking how many huge plays were broken up by one guy on the line. Time after time our center missed a block, got pushed away or into the ball carrier. He cost the niners numerous big plays in the packer game. I agree with Johnny, this guy should never start a single game again. I recommend everyone find this video o. YouTube and watch today. The games are terrible anyways today

There's no way they can't possibly recognize we need massive upgrades on the interior still. What's infuriating is that they have tried nothing to address it.
At minimum, you need to send a message to Brendel that his effort is unacceptable. We're not a playoff team this year anyway. Take him off the field NOW. And see what your other options can do.
Maybe Forester is scared he'll get fired because it'll become apparent how much of an absolute fool he is to continue to pound the table that Brendel is the best option, if another guy behind him does better. No one should forget that this clown was prepared to start Burford over Puni this year.

Agreed, and it's more than about time they find a long-term solution at Center. Brendel is far from it - he gets exposed vs. better teams, better DL talent. And, upgrades at RT and perhaps LG would be nice - Banks has had good moments but is he worth extending? Drafting Puni seems like a very good move to solidify RG. Need to think about Trent's replacement, too (hoping he can be back soon this season).
The saying goes way back that you have to win in the trenches, and especially if you want to win a SB. It was great seeing this team doing just that, winning in the trenches, during its SB wins.

I meant during the season after season the Brendel tape of him repeatedly on his back. That's where my second comment came in about sending a message to Brendel. We did not attempt to bench him for unacceptable effort/performance.
I am very happy we took Puni, he was one of my favorite IOL guys. I felt like there were so many other IOL prospects who could've started day one that we could've taken in addition, but that's a different topic.

Said it before in the draft forum a bunch of times, but it's unlikely the 49ers ever draft a rookie center under Shanalynch. Shanahan has never had one at any of his stops throughout his career.
They did, however, make it a priority through free agency at the start of their tenure here in SF when they signed Weston Richburg and then Alex Mack. The drop off from Mack to Pearsall is crazy despite Mack being in the twilight of his career. For whatever reason, they've departed from making it a priority. Hopefully, they pull their heads out of their asses this offseason.

Kyle doesn't care about the oline, he never has, which is why he has a history of getting his QBs murdered.

feliciano getting injured and Williams holding out ruined a decent OL as we had gotten a great guard in Puni

Purdy, Dobbs in the NFC Championship, Purdy again this year. Trey Lance, look at Kyle's career and the list of serious injuries sustained by his QBs. The better question is which QBs haven't been murdered because of Kyle refusing to invest in the OL or his shakey blocking schemes.
