Which everyone should be fine with. Let Trey and Purdy battle it out but based on what I've seen from Purdy and how he handled a complicated offense like a veteran, I expect him to be starting Week 1.

I don't. But let's see how it plays out.

Purdy has been outstanding at picking up the offense, no doubt. But he doesn't check all the boxes for KS, I'm guessing. He's undersized and lacks ideal arm strength. it's unfair, because he's got absolutely everything one would want in a QB, except for ideal physical attributes, but that's reality.

I get the impression that KS believes that he has something special in TL, He's raw and, although he is not at Purdy's level in his development, he does have all the physical and intangible attributes Kyle covets. I think that KS will give Trey every opportunity to develop his skills.
There is some real irrational dislike of TL by some posters. I cannot speculate on why, but it's not based upon the young man's play. He did very well in his second start with an injured throwing hand. Trey showed enough for Shanahan to anoint him the starter. That program got derailed by injury, but I expect Shanahan to get right back on that horse.

Purdy is a much better version of Jimmy Garoppolo. KS is not going to settle for that. But I'm sure that he feels blessed to have him around to fall back on just in case Lance does not progress and proves to be a failure. But no one in their FO is counting on that happening.

Ok, here is my counter: Trey suffered broken bones, that's not injury prone. The play that knocked Purdy out wouldn't have even shook Trey. So injury prone not the best argument against him.

The elbow is the most complex joint in the body, just like with the knee, all it takes is a sharp hit to the wrong spot to leave you unable to function. Doesn't matter how big or strong you are or how muscular you are, its an extremely vulnerable area.

You could be hit a thousand times in the arm and be fine and that one time it ends up in just the wrong spot and suddenly you can't grip anything nor exert any kind of force through the elbow.

I think the shoulder is the most complex.

Now that Purdy did not win the chip he will have to earn his role this offseason. Trey will have to be developed as well because he can be at least as good as Hurts

Dak for as much as he sucked at least he was available when it counted. We need to have options better than Josh Johnson or a one armed QB

Purdy will win a fabricated QB competition. He is better.

You knock Purdy for getting hurt but support Trey?

His play calling would suggest otherwise.

He trusts Purdy more and its clear as day.

Perhaps that changes but its not even close right now.
I hope his injury doesn't threaten his season next year or his career

Or if so, it's a sprain and not a full tear.

He'll be fine
So unfortunate, this kid was ready to lead us to the super bowl
I could see Purdy winning the team's Eshmont award. If that happens, if healthy, he'll start the offseason as the presumed starter.

Sprains also lead to Tommy John
Crazy when he finally lost and got booted from the playoffs, Purdy didnt even throw one incomplete pass.

If anything what happened just shows that the narrative that anyone would win playing QB for this team is false.
Why did this have to happen?

It is what it is. We still have Trey thankfully. I.am very happy about the QB position heading into next season.
