Dak Prescott's first couple years in Dallas were phenomenal because he had an elite offensive line + Ezekiel Elliot, before all the wear and tear. He looked fantastic and people were saying he's going to be an elite QB for a long time.
Then they awarded him with a big contract, and some of those things went away... He showed himself to be a good, fringe top 10 QB that could go on a tear... but has had a number of games like yesterday, when he just didn't have the poise to win a playoff game in a high-stakes environment.

Sky is Falling, Worst-case scenario: Purdy could be the same thing, where he looks amazing this year and next. He grows as a QB, and then we give him a big contract. But by that time... Trent Williams and Juice probably retire. Kittle is older, probably on his way out. CMC, Deebo, Aiyuk may or may not be here. We can't afford the loaded surrounding cast, and he turns out to be a good, but not great QB, on an overinflated contract.

Best-case scenario: Purdy's ceiling is a lot higher than people realized. All the comparisons to Brady, Brees, Montana are warranted... He's a QB that plays with a lot of poise, and as he extends his contract, we reload and get more playmakers for him, and the 49ers continue to win with him at the helm.

FORTUNATELY, we have him on a rookie contract for a few more years. We don't need to make the decision on whether to extend him for big money now. We have some time to figure out what kind of QB he is and we'll have this surrounding cast too, so we can make a good run with him at QB now.

This is exactly, 100%, it. It's also why I think it would be smart to keep Trey in the building and see how he develops too.

Yep. Exactly why we should just enjoy this run and not get so caught up about the long-term QB situation. Just enjoy the ride and let the chips fall where they fall.

Purdy not simply a game manager. 3rd&16 conversion lol

Announcers said the same thing.

Somebody will have to grab it again so we can spend the next week diagnosing.

I really do not see what shanahan would be crying about.

He was the one who called 2 runs up the gut to start the drive then called the pass play on third down which is contrary to calling the timeout.

It literally was a shanahan created problem that it went down to 1 second and it was not even a problem because he played it just right and there was still time.

That's why the whole whining by shanny was ridiculous.

The best part of that series was Brock's throws. The worst part was the clock management and play selection.

Everybody's going to whine and say it was conservative but if you wanted conservative just take a freaking knee and get out of there. One of those handoffs was to deebo as I recall and he could have easily fumbled it.

The problem was it was an indecisive halfway take between not knowing if you should take a knee or actually run the two minute offense. So instead you do halfway and hand to deebo which is risky in itself.

Then you waste time on third and short and instead of running it you have him throw which makes no sense after running the time down and calling timeout.

Then after he's successful and somehow gets you to field goal range with only two plays you chew him out for not throwing the ball away fast enough even though there's still time.

No idea who this is but reeks of being the guy who desperately wants to great and can't stand it when there is always someone better than him.

This was his worst game in terms of passer rating, but in terms of eye test it certainly wasn't a bad game, especially given the circumstances.
The fact that kittle wasn't even a read on that circus catch, and Purdy had the poise and composure to not only see kittle - but rip it.

this rookie is a freak. I hope he continues to keep it together in Philly next week and get revenge on hurts for his loss in college!

We couldn't extend Purdy now, anyways. Can't per the CBA. Not for two more years at the earliest

One thing that is real is you give the guy the second contract and the performance isn't improving like you would want. See Prescott, Dak. That second contract is a big motivator once it is signed it's a human thing to not have quite as much motivation.

Has anyone here referred to him as a "game manager" type of QB? Because I havent seen it.

That said,...that was certainly his role in this game and he did a solid job of it.

Which is my point.
The question of "Is Brock Purdy The Guy?"... it's fun water cooler talk, but it's just fan talk, and realistically, that question is only pertinent when we have to make contract extensions discussions, which won't happen for awhile. Until then, the future looks bright for the next few years.

Not really, because he's making all sorts of improvised plays.
But I think people, not just on this forums, do downplay what he's doing and say he's a System QB when they only try to credit Shanahan & his surrounding cast for his success.

Yep. Purdy's only bonuses before extension will come from the Performance-Based Pay Distribution program, making it to three Conference Championships (currently $65,000 each) and winning the three Superbowls (currently $150,000 each). Kid is playing hard so he can buy a house in SF.

Man, as I read and heard of what Kyle, Kittle, and Purdy talked about that play, it epitomized the trust between the players and coach. Especially between the young qb and Kyle. Kittle wasn't supposed to be out on a route but when Purdy rolled out and couldn't find anyone open, Kittle was heads up to go out, find an open space, and Brock had enough vision and moxie to let it rip quick.

No way Kyle after seeing that wouldn't trust Brock to do the right thing. Later on, empty back field for Brock to throw for a critical 3rd down conversation to run down the clock on Dallas.

Was almost startling to see the back go out wide on that play. Rubber meets the road moment. Surely everyone watching felt it.

I felt the exact same way. Made me stand up from my couch before the ball was even snapped. It's play calls like that in those situations that tells all of us that Kyle + Purdy are the real deal.
