Well sometimes killing a play (aka throwing the ball away) is a positive. If you're trying to force big plays on every broken play, bad stuff will inevitably happen.

I think Brock does really good on broken plays, and idc if he rushes for a few yards or throws off the broken play - I just don't want him getting hit or turning the ball over. I'd rather him just throw the ball away at times and live for another play.

I'm a major Brock fan but i've noticed that when injuries happen to the starters - he tries to over compensate. Which usually results in turnovers. I don't mind him playing hero ball when he's throwing to quality starters (which we've missed at WR for afew years now) but not to back ups or mediocre players.

He shouldn't be playing hero ball as much as he does. He's got the Favre mentality with a fraction of the arm. We've seen him make stupid ass decisions with the ball when the starters were fully healthy it's just a trait Purdy has.

These are variations of the conversations we had before his deal got done. And reality is some of you guys overblow his decision making.

I went back and looked at his turnovers early last year and in 2024 and only a couple of them were what you would call "hero ball" level mistakes.

You also don't need Favre's arm to play hero ball in a good way. It's funny how many people(likely you included) were complaining about paying him all this money as a franchise QB when he's not elite...and yet the majority of the plays by the elite guys everyone gets hot and bothered by them playing hero ball.

It's all about realizing when hero ball is worth the risk. I thought Brock did a much better job of understanding that in those later games. Play it safe on 1st and 2nd downs and save it if needed on key downs unless you're pinned deep in your territory or already in FG range.
Brocky must be so excited with his new receivers, last year he threw for a lot of yards with a dog crap receiver corps... he and ME will dominate the back shoulder this year

Agree, and I look forward to a true two tight end set (Kittle & Tonges) with Juszczyk as the third TE/FB offense in the red zone. I think Jake and Brock can be a special combo, if Jake can get better at blocking.

I don't think a 2 TE set with Kittle and Tonges is a great strategy for us unless Tonges works his ass off to improve his blocking this offseason.

Perfect world your 2 TE set has two guys like George who are terrific blockers and dangerous in the passing game. Tonges is a good receiver but his blocking is simply not good. We'd be better off going with 3 WR groupings, hell Stribling may be a better blocker. Juice gives us more flexibility than Tonges imo.

Also if Kittle can avoid getting hurt. He hasn't missed a ton of games except in 2020 and last saeson but he's only played in every game one season. It's just the way he plays. Blocking and trying to get those extra yards.
Saw that brock and his wife are doing pottery barn ads now lol

free furniture is always nice ngl

Tonges is a pretty good receiver. He beat a pretty good team last year on the strength of his receiving on the last play of the game. I think the strenth of the two tight end formation is 1) more potential protection for Brock in the passing game 2) some better potential in scoring in the red zone. Those are the two just off the top of my head right now. The key is for Jake to get better at his blocking, for sure.
What idiot prognosticators fail to see when trying to anticipate our wins and losses and predicting gloom and doom upon us is that we have the leagues best QB room

In case they've forgotten QB play is a significant factor in winning and losing in this league. Then we have just as many NFL top 100 players surrounding him as anybody along with an oft imitated coaching staff to boot

I know we've got to scrape and scrap for ours just like every other team but I think we've got about as good a chance as anybody else

💯%

I will just add that injuries also play a big role in the season. I liked how they stacked talent at that position in 2022. Trey, Jimmy, Brock. In that instance injuries actually *helped* the team into the playoffs despite losing two starting QB's.

I think ShanaLynch has to use injuries to their advantage the way they did that in 2022 at the QB position. NY85 is right, injuries are going to happen in a 18+ game schedule. The ones standing at the end of the season are the deepest teams with the least injuries.

Its hard to do that at every positon, but I think (this year) by trading down and simply getting more draft talent at every positon. Essentially More bodies, to replace injured players, they are going a long way to dealing with the annual injury bug.
Cross fingers Kaelon Black can be a legit receiving back like CMC.
