On a serious note, what would you all say to a Stafford type of deal for Joe Burrow. I believe Los Angeles gave up Goff, two first round picks and a third. I would assume that would be the starting point for a Purdy Burrow deal. Would likely take a little more than that. I don't think Cincinnati is gonna find any starting quarterback and this year's draft class nor do I think they could get anybody better than Purdy. Just throwing that out there to see what you would think. Would you do a Purdy and Burrow switch if we threw in 2 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd?

To me this isn't serious because the Bengals don't make this deal unless Burrow demands it and puts the organization into the type of bind where they have no choice but to move him.
Purdy is a good QB capable of executing our offense at a high level. We need better weapons and a run game, and those picks can help us get there.
An improvement at QB with a thin roster and no high value picks to improve in the near future isn't going to get us over the hump.

What a great idea. Put Burrow behind our offensive line. He's used to getting sacked 75 times a year. He'll feél right at home. In fact, lets throw in all our first round picks til 2030. I can't get enough Trey Lance vibes, and I know the faithful are clamoring for more as well.

I'm not necessarily saying it's a smart move. I'm just asking the question. Would you do that deal if it were to arise? Obviously we wouldn't just do that deal call it quits and go in next season. There's free agency and other draft picks to improve the team in this scenario.

Okay, first of all, I don't know how anyone can watch the end of our season and think that replacing Purdy is going to fix any of our key issues. You could replace him with prime Brady and it wouldn't have made a difference.
Second of all, the Bengals aren't trading Burrow for literally anything unless he fully and completely demands it.
Third of all, we need our picks (see point #1)
And fourth of all, for the trillionth time: PURDY HAS A NO-TRADE CLAUSE!
Of all the crazy blockbuster trades we could possibly make and dream about, a QB that is better than Purdy is simply not one of them. It is by far the least-likely. For all of the reasons I mentioned above, and more.
It would be more worth your time to fantasize about a big trade for a star wide receiver or a key defensive lineman. I at least give those a 5% chance of happening instead of 0%.

Chill. Lol. I'm not hating on Purdy nor am I saying he needs to go. I'm just asking the question if Burrow were available would you make the deal? Yes or no?

The answer is above. Not without a couple of all pro lineman.

a huge package deal for someone like Burrow would have been a great move in 2021, but in 2026 I dont know.
this team has too many holes everywhere to surrender yet another boat of picks for a single player. the bengals missed the playoffs with burrow and also with two WRs who are way better than all receivers we have on the roster combined
Id prefer to slowly build the rest of the team and then upgrade qb if we feel like we're at a point where he is holding the team back
trading for burrow is something a team like Seattle can consider doing if they dont win it all, because hed be a clear upgrade from Darnold and that team can win now and could probably afford to not have top draft picks.

Agreed. Was the perfect time, and I'm sure we tried (Stafford/Rodgers).

I firmly believe this is what happened and what eventually led to the Trey Lance trade.
We were looking at Stafford, but didn't want to give up #12 overall for him. Rams beat us to the punch instead. So we said "okay how about Rodgers?" but Packers didn't want to trade him. Then we said "okay how about Watson?" but then the allegations came out and we said forget it.
Then we decided we liked the QB's in the draft but not exactly sure who, and decided to acquire #3 overall. Then we dangled it in front of the Packers just in case but they still said no and then we picked Lance.
We basically decided after 2020 (and specifically after Josh Allen diced us up) that we wanted to upgrade from Jimmy by any means necessary and that we missed out after watching Brady take the Bucs to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately instead of eventually deciding to just stick with Jimmy and keep #12 overall, we eventually settled on option F: draft Trey Lance.

Seems like it. It was an inexplicable decision when it came to Lance specifically though. An obvious project who needed time to develop on a team in the middle of a SB window. Just an absurd decision.
I would pay a nice sum of money to get a full accounting of that decision, lol.

Didn't the Dolphins offer 4 first round picks to Cincinnati for the spot to draft Burrow and they said no ?
unless Burrow demands to be traded he's going nowhere. And even if we made that deal we have no draft choices to make which would downgrade the team.

We'll probably get a story in 20 years. But I'm fairly certain the story played out similarly to what I typed. The point is, Trey Lance was clearly not plan A. He very well may have been plan A out of the possible draft prospects, but certainly not plan A at the QB position overall.

This was more what I was referring to. I don't think he was. I don't see how it's possible that he was. It's a level of incompetence I can't accept, lol.

Of course we HAD to bet the farm on Lance. HAD TO.
Jimmy took us to the title game anyway. Lol.
