If you've been following David Lombardi this last week, he's been on a one man crusade to tear down Matt Stafford. Lmao it's hilarious to me. He is NOT happy that people praise Stafford so much. Idk why he cares so much but good for him.
Lombardi has his moments but I absolutely hate when he puts down elite QBs to prop up Brock. It's not needed at all. Brock has his own resume with this team which is what we should all care about.
Matt Stafford is a top level QB in this league and he's insanely talented and good. I hope we find a way to beat Seattle Saturday and then hope that someone else takes out the Rams so we don't have to play them with our defense. He's that good and without a pass rush to trip him up(like any QB) he will shred us apart like he did last time we played them and we'll have to hope we outscore them with having the ball last.
Brock has an opportunity to continue to wake up the doubters who won't give him respect until he puts up those huge numbers against a top level defense like Seattle.
It won't be easy. They will make stops and we'll have to punt a bunch of times. However we need Brock to have a game similar to the Browns game. Make the plays in big moments, protect the football and just get the job done.
I'm confident he can do that but the guys around have to be locked in and make sure they're coming down with the tough grabs or the contested catches. Seattle D is excellent. We have to be better. Simple as that. We need that #1 seed and it's there for the taking. Take it and run with it!
Both Purdy and Stafford are great QBs. But what bothers me is Stafford gets 100% credit for their success and 0% blame for their Failure. With Purdy it is always the opposite. While I am not saying that Purdy is playing better then Stafford. I can try to make the case.
Obviously Purdy has played for half a season and Stafford a full season. But It is pretty shocking how comparable their stats are.
Passer Rating
Stafford 108.8
Purdy 104.2
YPA
Stafford 8.0
Purdy 7.9
TD%
Purdy 7.8
Stafford 7.5
Completion %
Purdy 69.3
Stafford 65.2
Brock has played 8 games. Stafford 16 so we can easily adjust other stats to see what Purdy would be at it if you doubled his current stats in certain categories.
Passing TDs
Stafford 42
Purdy 40
Rushing TDs
Purdy 6
Stafford 0
Passing yards
Stafford 4,448
Purdy 4,080
Rushing Yards
Purdy 252
Stafford -2
Sacks
Stafford 22
Purdy 16
INT
Stafford 8
Purdy 18
Their numbers would be pretty comparable if you were arguing MVP. Obviously the one thing that jumps out is Brock throwing twice as many INTs. But I doubt Purdy would average that many on an entire season. Although it is pretty amazing that he is averaging that many more INTs and their Passer ratings are that close. Also these Stats are with Purdy playing games hurt and coming back from injury.
But here is where you can make the argument for Purdy.
Purdy is 7-1. With wins against the current #1 and #2 seeds in the NFC. His only loss came against a playoff team which he tried playing injured. And he still threw for over 300 yards in that game.
Stafford has Puka and Davante Adams. A RB currently with more rushing yards this season then CMC. And a much better defense.
With all that going for Stafford and still their stats are comparable. All that and the Rams have a worst record and the 49ers are currently playing this week for #1 seed. Purdy is simply doing more with less to work with.
