If you consider great offense as the only requirement for a great game, then sure. Why even have a defense then? Just play 7-7 and every game would be like it. Go be a fan of the arena football league then.

like I said, it was exciting but for as much great offense as there was, there was equally terrible f**kin football. I'm glad we won, no doubt, but calling it an all time great game of football is silly to me. Football is a team sport with 3 phases for a reason. Not just offense

that's like saying The Catch game wasn't an all time great game because Montana generally played poorly for most of the game including tossing 3 INTs and losing a fumble

Not the same thing at all. Lol

1981 - offense played poorly the whole game then made the play at the end to win the game

2025 - defense played poorly the whole game then made the play at the end to win the game

not the same at all.

You and I are on two different pages about what I'm talking about. You're comparing what the 1981 NFCCs offense by the 49ers did to how our defense played against the bears.

For real. I like David's commentary and info he provides but I also think he overly relies on data. Data is important but you can't always tell the complete picture when using solely data. A lot goes into a players evaluation and there are so many variables in football that it's hard to break it down with only data.

according to Lombardi, tua would of been "elite" a couple years ago if you just used data points, which is a joke.

an example is the bears vs 49ers game, DL said it was an "all time great game", I'd disagree. It was one of the worst defensive performances I've ever seen in nfl history. There was a ton of god awful football in it. Great offense doesn't make it a "great game" IMO. It was an exciting game, but does that classify it as an all time great? Idk. Not to me. A great game is great defense vs great offense and they're slugging it out. Great offensive plays are stopped by great defense and great offensive plays are made while the defense has great coverage etc. that to me is an awesome game to watch

lolwut?

that definitely was an all time great game.

Lol it was one of the worst defensive games ever. It was exciting but in no way shape or form was it an all time great game.

Lol exactly. I'm thrilled we won and optimistic the defense will rebound against the Seahawks but if you think Saleh is excited about rewatching that film… lol
Guys were confused, out of position, terrible angles etc
To put a positive spin on this, I'm proud that they kept up their effort. That was good and helped win the game. They didn't get down on themselves from what I could see.

agreed this was not an all time great game this wasnt a game where the bears offense just out executed us and played great we made a lot of mistakes. ITs so bad to the point i dont think it can be fixed for playoffs its a legitimate concern

Yeah I was bored out of my mind sitting in my seat watching two teams trade blow after blow. Bad defense and bad special teams. Meh game.

Y'all can never be happy lol.

im not sure what his argument was but are you talking about entertainment or execution?

From an execution standpoint i felt this game was a huge dagger for our SB hopes because we couldnt get a single stop i dont like the idea of our offense has to be almost perfect every game and we have to score 35+ to give ourselves a chance to win

If we are talking entertainment factor yes i had a million heart attacks ( i was at the game) and i consider it game of the year as long as the ravens vs bills game at the beginning of the year

The point is, it is comical to claim this wasnt a great game.

It was a great game to watch but from a technical standpoint it was poorly played by both defenses. I've been in the sytands and watched an offensive shootout agianst the Bills (31-34) and also a defensive struggle against the Giants (10-7). Both games were entertaining. Unfortunately we don't see a lot of great defensive battles anymore because of rule chnages that help the offense and handcuff the D.

i mea look at texans or bills eagles game. Dominant defenses can still exist in todays nfl

Well if you can read the initial post, I said it was a really exciting game. Lol no one's saying it wasn't a fun game. It just wasn't an all time great game of "football", IMO.

No one ever mentioned it wasn't a fun game, except you. Lol you're the only person throwing a fit saying this.

Dominant in today's world but cupcakes compared to the way they used to hit. They can't touch the QB anymore which allows for easier passing yards. Big hits are penalized and players are sometimes ejected. The way players hit on defense in the 70s and 80s would get them suspended now. I understand why they made all the ruke changes but it's a really different gamer now. All you need to do is compare QB pass completion percentages then with what they are now. Ten percent higher on average now because the QB doesn't need to worry as much about getting hit. Same for the receivers. The short and intemediate routes are wide open now by comparison because the receiver can't get leveled when they come across the field.

I thought they were worse than against the colts.
and they were pretty bad there...

Yeah, I chalk part of it up to Ben Johnson just being a fantastic play caller/designer.

At least the Seahawks run our offense, or a version of it, so the defense should feel good about knowing what they're doing and how to approach it.
They play it everyday. What the colts and bears run isn't something we see on a usual basis.

It'll be alright! They'll tighten up this week and build momentum going into the playoffs.
