Brock was unbelievable last night. THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is what winning a true shootout is. First one I can remember like this maybe ever.

As was mentioned above the best comparison is New Orleans 2019. That was wild. You score, I come back to score some more. Jimmy's best game, together with the GB one in the regular season that year.

The Divisional vs NO in 2011 was very memorable of course, but the middle third of the game was a defensive struggle. It was only when we jumped them at the start with the three turnovers, and the crazy final 4 minutes that the game got wild.

Divisionals vs Green Bay in 2012 was also like yesterday. Pick-6 in our first drive, then matching each other to 24-24, then Kaepernick broke the game open with that amazing read-option run.

I agree, the best comparison was New Orleans 2019. But still, wasnt really the same thing as we werent going blow for blow with them the whole game. We had a multiple score lead which we lost on two separate occasions in that game.

The 2011 playoff game was truly incredible. What you called the middle of the game a defensive struggle, I call an offensive struggle.

The Packers 2012 game was a shootout for a half. Then we blew them out in the 2nd half.

So yeah, I agree with you that the 2019 game was the closest to last night....but even still it wasnt really thaaat close IMO.

did you miss the SF v NO Alex Smith V Brees masterpiece ending with the catch part 3?

I remember those offenses stalling for the majority of that game until late in the 4th. Last night was something much different

Saints scored 14 points in the 2nd and 3rd quarter combined. We scored 3.

Purdy is up there with Jeff Garcia as the best 49ers QB since Young retired. Better than Kap, Jimmy G, and Smith.

Agreed. Garcia doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Purdy, Garcia, Jimmy, Alex, then Kap
Agree with that order because its demonstrably true. Purdy is the absolute best since Steve Young.

Garcia may not have reached an NFC Title game and by extension a Super Bowl, but he was way better than anyone else between Young and Purdy.

I wouldn't put Jimmy over Alex. Beyond that, yeah I can't argue too much.

LMAO

Alex should be dead last in that list of QBs, and that shouldnt even be remotely debatable.

LMAO at everything you said after LMAO.

They put up a graphic stating this was the first time EVER a regular season game was tied at 7, 14, 21, 28, and 35.

Happened once in a playoff game.

Joe was very athletic and mobile when he was young. He used to tuck the ball and take off and run quite a bit. He was agood athlete that played basketball in hgh school Once his knees got beat up and his back wa sinjured it all changed. Many fans only remember the older beat up Joe. His career rusj=hing avewrage was 3.7 yards per carry. Brock's is 3.8. In 1983 Joe had 61 carries for 284 yards. His speed has more like Brock's. . Joe and Brock both were/are effective in short areas.

Brock is only an inch shorter than Steve and Joe but he's heavier than both. Everyone is heavier these days including the fans.

They're all good athletes and most played multiple sports growing up.

Brock is more athletic as a runner, he's super twitchy and great at avoiding guys. He has a thicker lower half…I don't really care about yards per carry at QB, that's a pretty hollow stat for guys that aren't running the ball 10+ times a game.

Brock > Joe in regards to athletic ability imo. Brock is probably a solid 220lbs right now at 6 5/8.

anyway, brock needs to use that god given ability to scramble and use it when it's being given to you. Mahomes is the same way, he's not looked at as a duel threat QB, yet he's always scrambling and making plays with his feet as well.

There is no metric that puts Alex Smith about Jimmy or Kaepernick. Give me a break. We all know you have loved Alex forever, but your bias is showing.

I think Alex got a raw deal with poor coaching. Other than that I would agree with that order. Cap was the most athletic and was fun to watch for awhile but he just couldn't control that power arm of his.

Or see the field....

NFL rule changes eliminated his opportunity to be a good QB.

So your definition of a shootout is non stop scoring all game long which has literally never happened before

got it...

Smith was a super young and raw QB coming from a college spread offense. Went to a bad team with a defensive minded HC. Had a plethora of injuries stunting his growth and went through half a dozen OCs.

Alex turned into a good pro QB and won a ton of games. I'd take Alex over Jimmy G any day. Kap was an all out athletic machine that relied on his god given ability vs leaning to play with anticipation. I think he could win some games in today's NFL (Kap before he got black balled)

No, just a true back and forth. Not going up big and losing the lead. Thats more of a comeback than a shootout.
