QB Brock Purdy Thread

I don't understand how anyone can feel positive about Purdy at the moment (or, quite frankly, moving forward). The negatives outweigh the positives.

Sure, he's agile and he "processes" well, but he has no arm, and nearly everything must be thrown to the middle of the field or otherwise floated like a punt. Did anyone else see that third down throw to the sideline in the 4th quarter? I forgot who caught it, but the ball took an absolute eternity to get there when it should have been on a rope. He doesn't have the arm to do it. Defenses know Brock's limitations, and they bait him. And he consistently bites, failing to see LBs and safeties lurking (a problem that Jimmy had, too). Plus, he has a habit of playing hero ball. You can't do that when you don't have the tools in the bag.

There isn't a single person here who can justify his contract extension right now. It is looking like another massive misstep for this front office. Unfortunately, this one is likely to be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

And this reaffirms that in NO WAY IN HELL do you trade Mac Jones this offseason. I wouldn't even do it for a first rounder. Can't trust Brock at this point.
Purdy has no business being out there until his turf toe is fully healed. This staff is such a joke

That pass was to JJ and yes for a split second I thought it was going to be a pick 6 the way he floated it out there.

and you are right about being baited. Did you see how Horn just scampered across the field to get that 3rd INT. He knew Brock's tendencies and jumped the route before Brock even pulled his arm back.

And Mac definitely has a deeper pass in him compared to Brock. Mac actually puts air under it and gives his receivers a chance to make a play on it. Brock throws ducks that are slow and mostly underthrown.

Just frustrating to watch tbph 😤

But here's the thing: Did his toe make him play poorly last year?

He sucked last night.

His poor play of last year is overstated.
Not sure why he is floating everything. He has been able to drive those throws in the past. It's odd.

Oh, okay. Well, I guess that settles it then. I'm very relieved.
Very similar to that night game against the Ravens , when he threw 3 or 4 INT. Just poor to questionable, thin line decisions forcing bad outcomes. Luckily Carolina offense so bad they couldn't really capitalize.

It was his worst performance as a pro IMO, worse than the Ravens game.

The Ravens game had only one really bad pick. The first one he threw. The other 3 were somewhat fluke situations.

This one...they were all pretty terrible. Even the 3rd one which Aikman and others claimed was an excellent play by Horn...regardless if Brock throws that on time Horn can't get there.

It was the first time in Brock's career where I got nervous when he was throwing the ball down field. Everything he showed in the Arizona game to make me think he learned from watching Mac kind of went out the window. It wasn't forcing stuff into double coverage but the first pick he threw was absolutely unnecessary. First down..just cuz you get a ton of time doesn't mean you should test their best corner on Jennings. The ball placement didn't help things either obviously.

Same thing with the pick on the run throwing to Pearsall...take the first down with your legs.

Made it very hard to enjoy the win last night because the QB performance was honestly scary and it's unlikely he'll be able to shake the stink off that game considering next game is against a terrific Cleveland defense with a ferocious pass rush, on the road where we have very little success in a long time. Oh and sounds like bad weather is coming.

Just hope we do enough to get the win there, use the bye week to get Purdy right for the end run. If he's going to play like he did last night it will not be pretty.
Looks like we will never get the 2023 Brock back. He has been getting worse and worse. Sucks that we paid all that money for someone that is trending down.

He's a very good QB that had a lousy night. They all do. Hope that toe is okay.

He's not a very good QB. We now have a full season of him putting up elite numbers and a season and a half of him being very up and down. Dating back to last season he's on a downward trajectory. He's a good QB that needs A LOT of help. He's literally JG. He's not a franchise guy and certainly not a QB you give as much as the 49ers did. We roasted Dallas for Dak but did the same dumb s**t.

I'm all for criticizing our QB when he's not playing well.

But just like every single post you have made on this site, this one is littered with easily debunkable misinformation and not based on any actual facts whatsoever.

First of all, people are laughing at Dallas because they misplayed Prescott's contract situation hilariously poorly and that is the objective truth. They tagged him multiple times and then he ended up getting $60M/yr and one offseason later no QB eclipsed $55M/yr (Purdy got over 10% less) and also, Purdy got $50M less guaranteed than Prescott.

Second of all, Dak has had TWO opportunities to outplay JG OR Purdy in a playoff game and failed miserably both times.

Third of all, Dak has played in zero conference championships. Purdy and JG have played in multiple. And Dak has played way longer than both have.

Fourth of all, Purdy is not JG and nothing that happens over the next few games is going to change my mind. Why? Because compare their playoff numbers. They've both played a solid sample size of playoff games (5+) and Purdy has been vastly better. Like, it is hilariously night and day.

Fifth of all, you say "one season of elite play" and "one and a half seasons of up/down play" so let me get this straight, the four games this season (in which we are 3-1) counts as an entire half season, but the six games + postseason in 2022 counts as zero seasons? That's not even objectively correct basic arithmetic.

This is all without even getting into Purdy's toe, but I'm not for making excuses for our QB.

Just leave and go join the Rams forum already. You're not fooling anyone here into thinking you're anybody else.

If it's bad weather we should seriously consider starting Mac. Of course I'm dreaming. But maybe the weather in SC was hazy or foggy last night because I thought it was drizzling and that's why Brock's throws were off.

Brock cannot play in bad weather, and if it's going to be bad and with that defense we're most likely going to lose.

I agree but what has really changed from the Brocks rookie year and 2nd year? His arm is still the same. The talent around him isn't all that much different. It's not like teams have caught on to him, there was a lot of film on him and he was still elite.

The drop off is a little puzzling. It seems like Brock's processing/decision making has just really dropped off which is very odd given he has more experience now and you'd think that would be a consistent trait.
