Why did Colin Cowherd become such a Purdy hater in the last couple of months?

trashed him today by embellishing the Schefter report that "no team was interested in trading for Purdy".

I didn't see that but it doesn't surprise me. No one really wanted S Sanders or even Aaron Rodgers. Teams mostly have their QB situation sorted. Cousins is clearly available, and he hasn't been moved either.

All the media guys who clearly aren't very knowledgeable about the sport and need hot takes to get by are attacking Brock because they know it gets them clicks/attention.

The 49ers fanbase is one of the largest in the league. It's an easy poke the bear situation when you come for our QB.

What I find odd is it feels like some of these guys are so eager to poke holes in Brock's game and Brock is about as good of a guy and story as you can find in the league right now. Oh well. Prove them wrong Brock!
So am I interpreting this correctly:

We can cut him after 2026 and eat $36M in dead cap in 2027.

We can cut him after 2027 and eat $16M in dead cap in 2028.

We can cut him after 2028 and eat $8M in dead cap in 2029.

And in all three cases we're off free after the dead cap year?

If so, seems like an excellent deal for us! He would have to really, really fall off a Mount Everest cliff for us to even cut him after 2026.

Bottom line:
"I think the 49ers are probably happy with this contract. I think tying it into the $55M market and getting the fifth year without any added guarantees or early cash flow concessions is a win for them as is getting a deal done with no drama. It is certainly a solid contract for Purdy but all told I thought SF would have had to pay a bit more."

I loved the part about Dak's deal being an outlier that no one is taking seriously. IOW; "Jerry Jones, you are a dummy."

So essentially we restructure and extend after year 3 to bring the cap hit back down as an ongoing cost management thing?

"We want to make sure that we're working together with our organization and setting up everybody for success," Purdy said. "It's not just for me to get all the money as much as I can, but also, hey, let's surround yourself with a great team and players and a great locker room, and all those things mattered."

yes DJ. dak and the watson deal really were over the top. that's why ppl say this is 'fair' deal. i'd have to look it up, but i think the dak deal was after his 2023 season, the year he was in the mvp convo with brock. in some sense we are fortunate brock came due after 2024 and not 2023

Timing goes a long way in these deals.

Dak got his at the right time for him. Baker Mayfield could've made a lot more money had he signed after this season vs after 2023.

Hopefully last year was a blessing in disguise for us with Brock and in general.

The cap hits are huge in 2029 and 2030. By that time you know if he's worth it or not. The incentive would be to cut him there. A lot of the guaranteed money is out of the way. Those future numbers are big. But you know after a few years if you still want him by that point. 2025, 2026 and 2027 aren't really that bad on cap hits. Looks pretty team friendly.

Salary cap is also supposed to be massive in 2029.

I don't think I have ever heard a sports figure say that before about negotiations. It seems like they are eager to get every last dollar possible. Refreshing and yeah..that's our QB1
