I don't understand the Chris Sims stuff on Purdy. He always says Baker Mayfield is much better. Nobody in the league would take Purdy of Mayfield. What has Baker Mayfield ever done to earn that respect. Has he won a lot in the playoffs? Has he gone deep in the playoffs? You think his arm is stronger? He was the #1 pick? What really? I can't possibly look at Mayfield and Purdy and think Mayfield has achieved more in his career.

I don't think many people feel Purdy sucks. Just because they don't feel Purdy is a top 5 or top 10 QB doesn't mean anything. People see things differently and Niner fans are far more likely to look at Brock and see a top tier QB.

It's going to come down to performance and wins. He can have good stats but if he doesn't win in big games he'll be viewed as average at best. If he wins big games he'll be viewed as a top QB. Stats are irrelevant. Stafford is viewed more favorably now that he's lead a team to a SB win than he ever was at Detroit. His stats were better in Detroit but when you don't win your status drops. It's just the way many people view it.

Only partially. Perception and "flashiness" in how you win is also a part of it for the talking heads. If It was just about wins - and playoff wins especially - they'd say Purdy was more deserving of his contract than Jackson is of his, but of course they don't, because Jackson wins "with style," which is what they truly care about.

It's just a bias for draft position and physical traits. They don't value processing or accuracy.

Media values: Arm strength, mobility, draft status and big moments.

NFL evaluators are not much different. That's why there is a massive QB evaluation problem in the league. They just chase PHYSICAL traits.

Style does count for something, Dak loses with style and has the highest QB contract in NFL and no one seems to hate on him other than Stephen A.

Maybe you could say arm strength. But processing, timing, anticipation, accuracy, decision making I would give to Purdy. Brock is pretty athletic running around too. I think Purdy was just mis drafted. He's better than 7th round. Where should he go? IDK? But he's better than where he was picked. Maybe based on physical traits he would not go top 10 in the 1st round. But I don't see how you can watch him for years and not see he was just badly mis drafted. It happens. Montana was 3rd round. Brady was 6th round. Mayfield strikes me as a big arm who doesn't always make good decisions or have accuracy and timing and anticipation. He doesn't do a lot of things well that Brock does.

this is a joke post. you can evaluate the QB based on what the QB is doing. Campbell walking off has nothing to do with Brock's game or level of play. zero. most ppl simply conflate team success with what the QB is doing, and your post is along those lines. you give reasons why the team failed last season. i watched brock, and try to judge him based on what his game looks like. he didn't look accurate at times, he was holding the ball too long at times, and his passes were soft tosses. lost some mph on the ol fastball.

He's just being condescending because that's the easy route.

not sure why we can't evaluate the player alone? We can all make up excuses until we're blue in the face for any player. Some of it is justified, I don't think anyone is saying it's not.

the team was missing talent last yr, we get it. Those same folks that were tossing out all the elite Brock stats and MVP Brock in 2023 weren't talking about all the other players around him…in some cases they tried to downplay the talent. Now it's everyone else that was the problem and not Brock in 2024 Brock played a part in his up and down play. It's okay to point that out. He's gotta get better and with a big fat pay raise it's gonna be expected.

fwiw I have to end every freaking post with hey I don't hate Brock and I think he's a good QB because people take any sort of criticism and turn into some sort of hate post. Relax folks. Brock is good, I want him to be great and he's got some some stuff to clean up.

Honestly, he wasn't that bad last year. He still managed to have an overall decent year. Not to say he didn't struggle at times, especially in situations where he was trying to do too much, but he mostly had a positive individual season.

Of course we want to see the guy improve every year, but young QBs certainly have up and down years, even the great ones. I still think the things that Purdy does well, like elite anticipation and timing keeps his ceiling relatively high. A somewhat down year coming off an MVP caliber season is a not something that worries me greatly.

But like you, I'd like to see Purdy improve in late game situations. He's still such a young guy, that I'm not too worried in his development here. I'd also like to see him figure out his grip in the rain better. This worries me a bit more since it seems to be a physical issue. But other than that, just keep improving and go out a prove that 2023 is what we should expect from a maturing QB.
