nonsense. Those were poor reads and bad throws. Forcing the ball.

I mean if you can conclude that everything poor Brock does is because of the HC, this same is true when he does something well.

End of the day he's gotta play better in those late game situations. That's when the QB play shows up the most and is needed.

I hope this doesn't keep them from signing or keeping good players in the next few years. We know Purdy isn't good enough to take over a game with his arm or legs. He needs a good supporting cast like most QBs do. My fear is we'll see more and more of the supporting players holding out for more money. Why wouldn't they? In the end I care more about the team than any single player.

It will. It's the way the rules are written.

I do give Kyle a lot of credit for Brock's development.

And looking at Johnny Del's analysis, they were mostly not poor reads or bad throws. They were poor routes, or good defensive plays, or getting hit when he threw.

I understand last year was a big disappointment when compared to 2023, but if he had been picked where Trevor Lawrence was, he'd have been given a lot more grace by fans and media.

He's still not a finished product, and there's certainly questions remaining as to what his actual ceiling is, but in a year when salaries have exploded, he didn't reset the QB market the way inferior guys like Jimmy did. Most of the guys on the QB list that have higher salaries, signed their deals one or two years ago. And that makes this signing a relative bargain.

In some ways, we should be thankful of last year's mess of a season. Purdy wasn't horrible, but a down year took him off elite trajectory and put him in Goffland contract-wise.

I mean what if his best season was 2023? That can still be true. This is a fair and reasonable deal for both sides. He's in that Goff territory as of now. Can he move up into the other class and make record breaking money? Possibly but that's not a for sure thing either.

Could have been. No one knows. But even so, we're lucky to not have to pay Purdy based on his best season, as probably would have been the case if he was a first round draft pick. TLAW has enjoyed even less consistency, and seems to be getting paid based off his best season.

nah there were some bad reads/poor throws in there all the same.

I also want to make it crystal clear I like Brock and I'm glad they got a deal done. He's far from perfect though. He's gotta play better in those late game situations.

Agreed
One way of looking at it is $53 million per year is really high for Purdy. Another way to look at it is when the top guys get $75 million per year this will seem like a good deal. As the salary cap escalates. We have been pretty successful when healthy with Brock. But I don't know if we keep the same really good team now with this salary. Some guys must go. That will be a less good team. It remains to be seen. I'm not sure what to think and I've been one of Brock's biggest supporters. Just there is some downside to paying him this much. I was hoping more for a Baker Mayfield type deal for him. Then keep a really great team around him as best you can.

Next year we will have about 80 million in cap space that we lost letting players go this season. Cap space shouldn't be a problem next year

"Some guys must go" could be the name for this past off-season.

How many games we lose because our coach refused to cut our FG kicker?

The effect it has on other players and their demands is what bothers me the most. Bosa's cap figure is scheduled to rise above $40 million in 2026. I'm sure they'll try and rework that number but what if he says no way. I want mine too and he would be justified. He's as important to the defense as Purdy is to the offense. Maybe more so. If I was a player busting my butt out there to protect Purdy or support him in any way I would sure as heck want to be paid better. Not $50 million but certainly more than $2 or $3 million.

You could say how many games didwe lose because Purdy couldn't get the team into the end zone and they had to settle for a FG attempt. It's a game you can play over and over.

Not only is he off to a historic pace, he has taken 70 sacks so he has done it being under way more pressure than those other quarterbacks. (I know some maybe him holding the ball too long but on the other hand, our receivers did not get separation when compared to the receivers of Patrick Mahomes or Kurt Warner and it's not even close). Brock is very mobile as well so that even strengthens the case that he is such a good quarterback. He isn't elite, but we will see how he improves his game even more in the years to come. It would just be nice for him to get better pass protection like all these other great quarterbacks have enjoyed.
