Edit: (Ignore this) We don't know yet. Details normally get reported like a day after the announcement. Expect his cap hit to go up as the indication is the cash flow on the contract is front-loaded.

According to Lombardi, Purdy's cap hit is 8.5M this year, up from 5.3M.

I'm just happy it's done. Btw, he deserves it.

Yes he does. I imagine some of it is make up money for winning playoff games on a low salary.

He's a really good QB. Non-Niner fans underestimating how bad his oline is.
Awesome news! Congrats Brock!
For the fans saying this is a bad deal. What did you expect? And who else would be your qb if not Brock?

So Purdy $53 mil/yr is paid more per year than Mahomes $45 mil, Stafford, $44 mil, Justin Herbert $52.5 mil, Lamar Jackson $52 mil

And they're all paid less than Trevor Lawrence and Dak Prescott.

If all you do is look at the extension AAV (new cash/new years), sure. If you look at the total contract AAV (total cash/total years), then no.

  • Extension AAV - Allen (100.2), Prescott (60.0), Burrow (55.0), Lawrence (55.0), Love (55.0), Tagovailoa (53.1), Goff (53.0), Purdy (53.0), Herbert (52.5), Jackson (52.0), Hurts (51.0)
  • Total AAV - Allen (55.0), Prescott (53.8), Jackson (52.0), Goff (48.1), Tagovailoa (47.1), Mahomes (46.4), Love (46.2), Watson (46.0), Purdy (45.1), Cousins (45.0), Burrow (44.3), Lawrence (43.8), Hurts (43.2), Herbert (42.3M), Stafford (42.0)

Keep in mind that when Lawrence extended, he still had 2 years remaining on his contract.

Mahomes had a contract adjustment in 2023 that paid out 45M from the final four years over 2023-26 instead. That pumped his cash flow to 52.2M per year from 2023-27 and dropped his cash flow to 39M per year from 2028-2031. In 2028, Mahomes will either get one more cash adjustment or an extension.

Now if you want to edit that to "First three seasons starting" omitting Mahomes 1 start, end of season 1 with 0 pressure, cause the Chiefs were locked into their playoff spot, in which he didn't play so well, earning a 76.4 rating then yes, the graphic is accurate.

Compare the first 32 games for each and the graphic looks a little different......

there are a lot of QBs out there. let's suppose brock decided to retire and wasn't on roster. i would have gone after daniel jones and jalen milroe. you can get both on roster for about $16m. notably kirk cousins is a backup. so if brock was retired or not available, shanny may be on the phone with his old employer, ATL. the deal is a lil more than i expected, but not out of the range of what was reported / discussed. some thought he was getting $60m or resetting the market. that did not happen.
.
I love it. 👏 👏
I'm completely fine with it but I do have my concerns about Brock. He was spectacular in 23/24 but was pretty mediocre last year. Injuries most definitely played a major roll so I'm not overly concerned but he no doubt needs to play better and find a way to close out games.

Don't take that as hate as I'm 100% behind the guy but I do think he needs to back to 23/24. Dudes paid now it's ime for him to earn it. Well... not that he hasn't earned it but he needs to play up to it.

Most of the people who have had that take are usual suspect Debbie Downers who expect players to play for peanuts.

We don't have the details yet and even just on APY he's like 7th in the league below even a Tua(who got his deal like 2 years ago) and 2 million less per year than guys like Trevor Lawrence and Jordan Love who he's been much better than so far.

He's also like 13th in % of the contract being guaranteed money for a QB.

Lower than a lot of guys who got paid even if his APY is higher and guaranteed money is the biggest thing when it comes to these deals.

That's a fair take. I do think Brock is way better than the other guys you mentioned.
