If it's a bargain now, then what's stopping it from being a bargain in 2026 or 2027? What makes "2025" the "year of the bargain" ??

Because we and media are going off what other QB's are getting now who just recently signed, Jordan Love, Tua, Josh Allen, Dak Prescott. Brock Purdy should get somewhere in between those contracts.

This isn't rocket science man. Contracts go up every year. Salary cap goes up. The expectation is the cap will really go up in the next couple of years.

Smart move is to get ahead of it cuz then you're dealing with higher prices across the board.

bellyaching about it cant force Brock's signature.

He has a right to not sign if he doesnt want to.

Did You read my post Seems you are thinking that I assume Brock is the problem. I'm thinking 50Mill or more will be adequate.

It takes two, it's not always the teams front office creating the delay. The majority of the time it's the player and the agent (mostly agent). Brock's contract is tricky, his stats say he's a top 10 QB but most feel he shouldn't be paid as such.

Bosa and BA are some slow rolling contracts this FO has been involved with, concerning their star players.

Likely guaranteed money and structure of incentives. The overall number will be in the $53-55 range.

When risk is involved, that's not necessarily the smart move at all.

It's called risk/reward,...and it's a balance. As you said....not rocket science. Pretty basic stuff.

And there's no set cap hit number or percentage right now that qualifies as a great deal. We won't find out how great of a deal it was or wasn't until he actually plays on the new deal. That's pretty much always how it works.

So tossing the cliches out for obvious reasons.

my offseason ideal plan would have been don't sign mac jones, i liked daniel jones or as a rookie, i like jalen milroe. then with brock, you aim for a club friendly deal which pays him well, but gives the club flexibility as well. if he doesn't want to sign, eventually you table conversations and he can play on the $5m or not. i would start doing that with all players. once TC starts, we don't negotiate. play on what you got, or don't. your call.

Josh is the only one in that group that's worthy of 50+ million.

Who assigns worth to players if not NFL teams? Fans don't pay these salaries so I never understand guys who sit behind their phone/computer and claim X QB doesn't deserve to get paid what he actually got paid.

Some of you can claim some teams made a mistake but a price is still set. You don't get to pretend those other QBs didn't get paid for arguably doing or accomplishing less than Brock has.

Josh Allen is worth more than 50 million per season and if he wanted it he could've gotten it. Each QB can make the decision whether they push for the most they can get regardless of what that does to the rest of the roster or take less/or take the team friendly structure.

Nothing about Brock screams someone who wouldn't help the team by taking less than his play/ability could realistically fetch.
The contract adjustment on Stafford was released. 84M/2 total contract.

  • 2025
    • Cash: From 27M to 44M, a raise of 17M. 40M/44M guaranteed-at-signing.
    • Cap Hit - 49.67M to 47.47M, saving 2.2M.
  • 2026
    • Cash: From 30M to 40M, a raise of 10M.
    • Cap Hit - 52.67M to 48.27M, saving 4.4M.
  • 2027 Cap Hit - 9.6M (Void)
  • 2028 Cap Hit - 9.6M (Void)
  • 2029 Cap Hit - 9.6M (Void)
  • 2030 Cap Hit - 4.8M (Void)

Essentially borrowing 33.6M in cap space from 2027 to pay for this raise.

It's said that his $40-million average per year ranks 15th and his total guarantees rank 17th.

Yes. Kick the can down the road and have a kid on a rookie deal by then to soften the blow.

They werent franchising him for 2 yrs in all likelihood,... so letting his agent test the market resolved everything.

Nothing surprising.
