too early for pronouncements. lets see how this season plays out. purdy could have 4 picks by now with bad luck. reasonably, three. Lets see how it goes.
So almost picks matter all the sudden?
Depending on who's the QB and the narrative you're trying to push, yes.

Quick twitch Brock
I've always been the type to dismiss small sample sizes, so many QB's I can list that just fizzled out quickly after hot starts.
But... I think the only thing that will hold Purdy back is himself. He can do everything at least good enough. I haven't seen anything in his game yet where I could see an obvious area where he can struggle in.
He can't let his success get to his head and think he can take it a bit easier in the off-season, practice, preparation, those type of things.
The biggest knock I can give him right now is his size. He's gonna need to be able to protect himself, and it seems like he's already pretty good at that.
Imo, he's got the instics to play the position well, and his arm is fine enough to make the majority of the throws. No, he'll never be able to roll to his left and throw a 50 yard rope, but that just isn't that necessary.
Playoffs are gonna be a different animal though, more holding / pi is allowed, defenses will be better. If he shows that he can handle playoff football, you gotta roll with this kid as the starter next year.

I think almost picks matter. I think Purdy should be 2 picks in the last 4 games. One dropped, and one was saved by a defensive penalty. The Juan Jennings int was not Purdy's fault.
I don't know the number, but I think in the NFL, almost picks happen very often. Defenders are not professional receivers, they drop the ball very often. I think our defense typically have several almost picks a game.
I don't know overall in the NFL how often that happens, but I would think probably almost picks + actual INT stat - actual INT not responsible by the QB probably would be double the actual INT stats if not more.

If you added the almost picks and subtracted all the picks that were someone else's fault you know it would not make one bit of difference to the scores in the games he has won

I would agree, they absolutely matter. But to a guy like Brodie they only matter for Brock.

I think almost picks should almost be an official stat.

Every QB who has ever played has a decent # of "almost picks". Mahomes had about 20 passes last year that were literally dropped picks or should have been picked.
The only way to avoid ints is take no chances ever and you won't win in the NFL that way.
I do agree Brock had a couple would be picks that he was fortunate didn't happen (bucs pick called back I penalty, Seahawks dropped pick) but again that is every QB ever and the one pick he did throw with Jennings shouldn't have been a pick

But then they shouldn't count picks that hit a receivers hands first. They should count against the Receiver.
