QB Brock Purdy Thread

Steve Young use to complain about passing lanes when his OLINE did not get the hands of the DL down.

Probably diverting blame from his 6-2 height compared to prototypical 6-4 or 6-5 guys.

Brock is even smaller, so lets hope we don't see more of that, but on the flip side if the DL is trying to get their hands up that will slow down the pass rush.

I think it is clear that the offense can be more explosive with Purdy, wonder if the training wheels will come off and Purdy will get more chances to attack the defense.

Training wheels are already off.

There were three plays that he made that will not show up in the stat line but all three showed exceptional awareness as well as athletic ability.

The most impressive was his 360-degree throw-away. He showed good speed initially, then a little stutter step to buy time, and then the spin and awareness of where to throw it. If I tried to spin around like that I would be lucky to stay standing up much less throw it away.

The second was the scramble where he went out of bounds for a short sack rather than throwing it away. It was great because he recognized there were linemen downfield and a throwaway would have resulted in a penalty.

The third was toward the end of the game where he chose to take a sack rather than a risky throw to JJ who was open on the sideline.

That is good QB stuff right there.

100%. I don't want to be "that guy" and compare him to Tom Brady, but being aware of these things, and seeing the field so well, were the traits Brady displayed from day one. And Brock is showing that too. I try to keep the excitement in check, but so far, it's getting harder to do so each week.

Love the win but folks are easily forgetting Trey is QB1. There is no controversy.

The only controversy are those developed in this forum.

But fun XMAS win. Improved nicely in the second half.

Unless Purdy suddenly implodes, there damn well will be a competition next year in the least. You can bet your last dime on that.

This was the kind of s**t that made me obsessed with Mahomes when he was in college.

…JG was playing better than he ever had.

History.

What the what. Let's be very clear here.

Jimmy doesn't escape a collapsing pocket and look downfield for open receivers like BCB. Jimmy doesn't have the legs to move up or around defenders looking to sack him. Jimmy doesn't scare defenses bc he's not as multi-dimensional as BCB.

There's a reason why Aiyuk and Kittle are putting up better numbers with BCB at QB. Because he can AND will take those shots downfield.

For those pro Jimmy, go back and look at the tape in the NFCCG. Go back and look how many times Kittle and Aiyuk were streaking up the sidelines wide ass open and Jimmy G never looked their way. Aiyuk was dejected AF for being so open and Jimmy not going his way. Ever. That's what you guys yearn for? Get real. We finally have a QB that can run the offense that Shanny wants to run. Enjoy the damn ride.
Kdog nailed it. 100% this. Brock's floor is higher the jimmy's ceiling. Truth.

3rd and 4--throw to the sticks? Nah, f that, we need points! I love this about Purdy.

Best thing about him is that he throws to the open man. Seems simple, but we haven't had that since, god, Jeff Garcia?

Plays like this tells you Brock actually capable of staying with the read presnap and postsnap as coverages roll. Good s**t from BCB

The competition started this year.

It's so obvious that you have to be completely delusional to try and argue against it.

a lot of time has passed. the xbox 360 is 17 years old. when will we win a superbowl?

brock purdy was born in 1999. what could that mean? that was when steve young retired. brock purdy is here to carry on the torch that steve young passed down in 1999. lets win it !!!

I'll do you one better, the Dreamcast released in America just 3 months before BRock was born

I say it on here often. If you're 30-35 and under - you've never seen the niners really be good unless you started watching football at like 3-6 years old.

In our generation, niners have been a laughing stock of the NFL for a majority of that time. I didn't see my first 49ers playoff win until 2011 season (early 2012).

its been so many decades since we've won anything besides second place.

Yes! I remember when he made that throw during the game - I was telling my friends how impressive it was because of the angle and how quickly he processed that decision.
I think the coaches knew what they had with Brock in practices, but like most they weren't sure what they will get in a game. Shanny is finding out like the rest of us, Brock is just as good if not better in real games.

It took 32 seasons for the 49ers to win their first NFL title. Then they won 5 in 14 years and were in the playoffs nearly every year. Ten win seasons were expected. Now it's been 27 years (counting this season) since the last title. It's time guys!

I have this feeling that with a newfound stable quarterback (HOPEFULLY), our expectations are about to met consistently for several years. 😈
Well, we're number one in Power Rankings, and we don't have another quarterback that can play this year. Stop with people deciding what Brock's ceiling is.
