I'm being slightly passive aggressive/sarcastic there but I say let's let the kid prove himself first. Let him win a playoff game and then go in the road and have a game winning drive like Jimmy has against GB.

I'm confident Brock can dump the ball to Deebo and let him win the game with his legs just the same to get a fg.

I'm guessing you'd appreciate that if Brock did it instead of view it as a negative. Am I right?

Ah nvmd Jimmy is the past. I personally still want to see a lot more from Brock before going to such extents as to trading Trey and suddenly having little faith. I still need to see Trey prove himself too so it's not like I'm calling for benching Purdy but I think it's a little too early to throw Trey to the wolves.

That's not saying Purdy can't, but let's see him do it first We have a super bowl team and he just has to play within his means. If he's really this good he should win us a SB or get very close with this defense.

I'm enjoying these blowout wins with BCB vs gut it out wins with Jimmy G. Easy choice IMHO.

Oh he's still gotta prove things. But leading a team on a field goal drive to win a game isn't the highest bar. Always thought Brady was super overrrated for his first SB too. Definitely not a negative but nowhere near what say Jimmy did against Rams in week 18.

Certainly not in favor of trading Trey.

Let's not go too hard on JG. The team was playing very well with him at QB. When he was injured the air just went out of the stadium. Everyone was crushed because they knew they had it going. Then…Purdy…

Playing even better now.

…JG was playing better than he ever had.

History.

Is that saying that much? Kinda low bar he set for himself. While i agree that he was playing better this year, it's not like he looked that amazing.

Purdy has been better, and he's a rookie. He's at least shown the ability to stretch the field while still being efficient.

I do hope Jimmy can be healthy enough for the playoffs though, need him ready if anything happens to Purdy.

JG was playing like a top 10 QB at that time. He was making reads and throws he had not been making prior to that time. In the Brian Griese thread, we were talking about how Griese had impacted/improved his play. He has raised the bar.

I do not want to sidetrack this thread to talk about Garoppolo here. I'll just leave it at that.

What the what. Let's be very clear here.

Jimmy doesn't escape a collapsing pocket and look downfield for open receivers like BCB. Jimmy doesn't have the legs to move up or around defenders looking to sack him. Jimmy doesn't scare defenses bc he's not as multi-dimensional as BCB.

There's a reason why Aiyuk and Kittle are putting up better numbers with BCB at QB. Because he can AND will take those shots downfield.

For those pro Jimmy, go back and look at the tape in the NFCCG. Go back and look how many times Kittle and Aiyuk were streaking up the sidelines wide ass open and Jimmy G never looked their way. Aiyuk was dejected AF for being so open and Jimmy not going his way. Ever. That's what you guys yearn for? Get real. We finally have a QB that can run the offense that Shanny wants to run. Enjoy the damn ride.

My point, as I expressed above, was that the team was looking better under JG than it ever had.

Now, that having been said, it is clear that Purdy is more mobile, and has greater agility and athleticism than does Garoppolo. That allows him to extend plays and allow things to open up downfield. In addition to all that, he has the poise of a 4-year veteran QB. What is not to like?
I think we are all just antsy in the pantsy and want that 6th trophy so damn bad. Let's get it and Disney can start producing that Mr Irrelevant movie with several NFL player cameos.

I don't even watch the game in the 4th anymore. I'm just staring at the clock and chillin.
Can someone explain why the Niners can't generate multiple scores in the first half of games (as they did against the Bucs)? Even with Purdy there seems to be no energy or life to the offense during the first half of games
1. I think Kyle feels about Brock as strongly (or more strongly) as he felt about Kirk Cousins. The awareness he brings on the field, his ability to execute within the offense but also to "overcome" it when necessary--Kyle loves this kid. I think all things being equal, he would love to start Brock in 2023.

2. Having said that, trading Trey is nuts. Why take over $10m in dead cap and then have to sign another guy as backup, when we have a good guy (great physical traits, good in the locker room, coaches like him, he works hard) who is cost controlled for at least the next two years? An additional assumption here is that Jimmy is prohibitively expensive and moves on after this season.

3. So I think we have to have a competition at QB next season regardless of how far this team goes in the postseason. First, I think the prospect of competition will get the most out of both QBs. But second, I think for the sake of Trey (who as stated above I believe we keep on the team) you have to give him the chance to stay #1. He didn't lose the job because of his play, he got injured...for team chemistry, for the legitimacy of the coaching staff, to ensure that the team gets the best opportunity to win--you have to let Brock and Trey battle it out. Whoever loses will accept being the backup because they lost a competition, not because of favoritism or bias. It's best for the team.

My two cents.

It takes a while for Kyle to get warmed up with his play calling.

DON'T forget that B-Rock still a rookie.. as good as he has been, he's still LIMITED as far as understanding the game of the PROS.. It also does not help when Shanny

often forgets that the best and highest paid FB in the game can also catch and run..
