...and that is the bind.

Brock Purdy has put the 49ers in a bind, a pleasant one, but a bind. They have invested a TON in Lance, thinking they had no other option than to go down that road. Not in their wildest dreams did they see Purdy on the horizon. Unfortunately, or fortunately, whichever side one is on, they now have the quality of QB they wanted. It just isn't the guy in which they invested so much.

So, that is the bind.

If you are going to be in a bind, that's the best possible bind to be in.

By the way, I agree with you. The 49ers invested a ton of capital into Trey Lance. He was the unquestioned QB of the future. Shanahan made no secret of that.

But now the future isn't so simple. The only way Trey gets back into the picture is if Brock stumbles, badly. OR, if he stumbles and gets hurt.

ehhh. that's a poor example. the 2020 Eagles were 4-9-1 when he took over and had NO wide receivers. Travis Fulgham and Greg Ward were their leading wide outs. Pederson knew how talented Hurts was.

Nope was all about Jimmy for 4 yrs. I didn't give up on him at any point regardless of play or injuries…not until that 2021 off season did I say it was time to find the next QB. That is well documented in here, so stop with your hate Jimmy b******t

Again comparing a 31 yr old QB who's got 1,700 nfl passing attempts to a 22 yr old QB with 100 passing attempts is a p***y debate oozing with confirmation bias. Maybe don't be mad that this organization was over Jimmy. Move on dude.

It isn't Lance hate as much as it is the reality that Brock Purdy is clearly the best QB option right now.

I made the mistake for posing the question of should the 49ers offer Trey Lance to the NY Jets for draft picks. It was just a suggestion and nothing more.

I was immediately labeled a racist for even posing the question.

I thought Kyle was the coach? Somehow I remember us desperately looking to trade Jimmy and move on from him? Once we felt we could not get commensurate value we opted to keep him here as a backup. Jimmy came in after Trey went down and played very well. In my opinion, Brock has played even better than that so we have good problems. Ask the remainder of the NFCW

According to his train of thought, Purdy is worlds better than Jimmy and it only took 3 starts and 115 passing attempts to "prove" that.

And don't give me that intangibles, high ceiling, draft status BS. I want the guy who can actually makes plays on the field.

They will have an offseason battle and Kyle will play the guy that he believes makes his job coaching the team to wins on Sundays easier

I think the team is perfectly happy we have 2 starters at QB when healthy. We have them cheap. We have no bind any worse than our NFCW foes. We will play out this year then go into the offseason with a battle to decide who lines up under center next fall. What we gave up for Trey is essentially a sank cost and we have a great outlook in front of us

You really think there will be an offseason battle for starting QB if Purdy wins the Championship? Which he is poised to now do?

OK.

We have seen Jimmy for multiple seasons and so far from what I have seen from Purdy in 3 games has been more consistently better than Jimmy as far as having a QB to effectively utilize the entire field both vertically and horizontally and this makes us a more potent offense capable of winning shootouts if need be. This is my gut feeling. But my point remains of Kyle being the coach and BTW look at this season's record. I am glad he is the coach making these decisions and not some of our fans

Between him and Johnson? Well yea. Not sure what that has to do with Lance tho

I love Jalen Hurts as a person and team leader but I'm sorry, he is not a long term solution for the Eagles or any other NFL team as a starting QB.

Btw, I drafted Hurts for the Colts in the 1st round. They should have listened to me.

There will be if only one for the sake of optics. Trey was drafted to be the franchise. He will get a shot at it this offseason vs Brock. That does not mean he will make up any ground there but he will compete just like all of our guys compete and coach will go with the guy he believes gives him the best shot at winning going forward. That is just the way I see it going down because Brock was not drafted number 1 overall and then is playing like he is playing. Because so much was spent on Trey he will compete because they need to see if he can become the Josh Allen or even Jalen Hurts of the future. If he can't beat out Brock this summer he will hold the clipboard and run the scout team just as Brock has

Yeah and the 2020 49ers were 6-10 if we're gonna play that game. Clearly Shanahan knows how talented Lance is or he wouldn't have made the biggest trade in SF history to get him on our team.
