I know you said your post wasn't directed at me but I never said any of those things. Never agreed with anyone who said any of those things. I am just making my case for why I believe we should stick with Purdy until he gives us a reason not to. With the way we go through QB's we would be naive to get rid of Trey so soon. I find it hard to believe he will not get another opportunity with us to prove his doubters wrong. But on the opposite end of the spectrum from your concerns, are those posters who want Trey to be annointed the starting job next season no matter how Purdy performs the rest of this one. I want the QB who gives us the best chance to win a SB next season, no matter who it is.

At this stage of their careers in what faction of the game has Lance demonstrated that he is observably better except as a nose down runner? I suspect a lot of those yards also came on plays where he broke out of the pocket on a pass that broke down, part of his 54.9 completion %. But I have also seen him get stoned on several runs where he was trying to get to the sticks with only a yard to go.
I remember one play where he was going around the edge on third down and ran out of bounds a half yard short of the sticks as opposed to that play by Purdy where he slid under a tackler, extended the ball, and got the first down with damaged ribs and a partially torn oblique muscle. There was also a play against Seattle I think where Purdy was rolling out after the snap and fell down. Fell down! But still had the presence of mind to get up and complete a pass for positive yards. Jimmy never makes that play and I seriously doubt Lance would make it simply because he isn't as nimble or quick footed as Purdy.
As a passer? Here are there stat lines so far.
Lance 8 games

Regardless of what happens the rest of this year Lance is facing an uphill climb going into camp next season. About the only way he wins that job is if Shanahan and Lynch hand it to him again like they did this year. If it is really an open competition I don't see how he comes out on top quite frankly. Time will tell though I guess.
That decision (on whose time) was made when he was drafted…if you can't handle that then I don't know what to tell ya. Those dudes are all in the early stages of making top money. They ain't going anywhere and IMO this regime clearly knows how to make a roster and should continue to do such.
8 games lol? What are you even talking about random given plays on any given week? Same with Brock. In no objective world should you be tossing out those types of stats UNLESS you're trying to put out some confirmation bias.
I'm not arguing stats and we all can see that Brock has played better…no one is debating that. He also showed up with 1,500 passing attempts and 4 yrs starting. That's 5xs more attempts than Lance had. So yeah I'm not shocked that he looks more prepared right now, that's what I've been f**king saying since lance was taken…he NEEDS live reps to get better.
Whatever kyle and Lynch do next yr, I support. That's also discussions for next yr.
why can't we discuss the game right now? Do you think our offense was amazing this weekend? Let's talk about it…thank god for those explosives because I thought we stunk in the red zone. I thought we let DC hang in for way too long.

Sorry, I want the best QB who gives us the best chance to be a franchise QB and gives us the chance to possibly win multiple Lombardi over the next 15 years. Both of these QBs are 21/22. The plan with Trey was to groom him. It was never going to be a one year gig.
Brock is playing really nice. It's way too early to give a final analysis. Look, we are a ton better than we have been but to put the smallest tiniest little negative we had some redzone issues again. First half last Saturday. Not a problem at all but let's be serious. We have a long way to go.
Both of these dudes look like they barely shave yet. Trey is QB1. Trey was drafted to be QB1. Very expensive and time consuming pre draft evaluations occurred. Huge draft capital given up.
Brock keep it going. Great job early in.

Pardon the interruption but the "monsoon" excuse is not valid. Go back and look at the game. The "monsoon" started with 8 minutes left in the game. Prior to that, the rain was light to moderate but not unlike many other games in which the rain had little effect on the play.
Lance looked like the inexperienced player that he is. He missed reads. Missed simple throws - his first throw in the game was the same kind of throw this board has skewered Garoppolo for - an overthrow of a wide-open receiver who was on his way to a house call with a more accurate throw.
Don't get me wrong, I want the 49ers to keep him through his rookie contract (I don't think we have a choice) and give him as many opportunities as they can while still keeping winning as the #1 priority. As for now, we have a QB demonstrating all the intangible qualities that are vital to winning. All this talk about Lance's upside is just smoke in the wind. The team loves Purdy and any attempt to install Lance just to "give him experience" will not go down well, IMO.

Idc where someone was drafted - I think Purdy has a high ceiling as well. What the hell dows that mean? That he make throws look at magical as Mahommes?
if he can get the same results as Mahommes in his own style - then that's the same ceiling, in my opinion. I don't see any reason why Brock can't be a top QB in this league if he continues to grow at the pace he has. It's absolutely incredible and if he wasn't a 7th round pick - no one would be saying we should still give Lance a chance.
