QB Brock Purdy Thread

Hundreds of millions watch on Christmas day. Because everybody is off. He has his WORST day ever as a pro. Just awful. 4 interceptions. A lot were tipped passes. But they still happened. The country and media then says see he sucks and is being carried by the team of weapons.

They didn't watch the whole year and body of work. They just don't understand. It's all so unfair. He's a heck of an accurate thrower and he can make off schedule plays too.

It wasn't just the Ravens game. It was the prime time games as a whole. He played great against Dallas but outside of that, the prime time appearances didn't really help his case as not being anything more than a product of the system. Most of the talking heads and definitely the fans are not watching, and definitely not deeply reviewing, every game every team has played.

Couple that with his draft position and lack of top physical talent and none of this is surprising. It also doesn't mean anything.

CRY_Boys and Eagles games were mostly big rated prime time games in most of the country. He played awesome in both. You miss the Eagles game? I feel the prime time Christmas day game weighs so heavily. Because it was late in the year (more weight - unfair but true) and so many people watched it (everyone off). Where they didn't watch the other games all year long. So they just have no idea what he is. They just go with narrative. Listen to HOT TAKES shows with guys like Nick WRONG. They assume he is right but have never really seen Brock play. How many games do they watch outside of Christmas? Probably none.

Look at the Eagles game as a great example of what I'm talking about. He had 4 TDs on short passes. Deebo dominated the game. Caught a 7 yard pass over the middle and broke a tackle and then raced up the middle of the field. Caught a WR screen that was perfectly blocked and went untouched through the middle to the endzone. JJ catches a simple out and throws his defender aside for an easy score. Aiyuk catches a not particularly well thrown pass on a dive for a touchdown. You think casual fans and media are going to understand that Brock hit Deebo on that middle route as a 4th read (IIRC)? No. What they saw was Brock throwing easy passes and his playmakers dominating the game. It's easy to see them use a game like that and attribute Brock's statistical dominance all season long to that type of play.

I don't think it's really true though. He has great ball placement all season long. It's definitely their narrative. But it's not true and it's unfair.
Here is to a 25 for 30, 375 yds, 4 td, 0 int day for Mr. Purdy. Td throws to 1) Kittle 2) Aiyuk 3) Deebo 4) Jennings. Oh let's throw in a 15 yd td run as well. CMC has a relatively light day on the job due to the Packers turning the ball over 3 times in their own territory - he ends up with 75 yds rushing on 12 carries and a TD.

49ers 45
Packers 20 << garbage time accounted for

I agree with you. What I'm saying is that casual fans and media are not watching 17 49ers games and/or reviewing film. They are def watching the prime time games and it just so happens that those were not the best games to use to argue Brock is a difference maker. Couple that with his unimpressive physical talent compared to the great QB's in the game and his draft position, and it's easy to understand where this argument is coming from. That doesn't mean its a good argument.

Yeah I agree with those and understand where you are coming from. I just think it's all wrong if you watch all 17 games and deep dive into the film. If you do you are looking at a young Drew Brees or something. Just a really accurate thrower with timing and anticipation who is mentally ahead of the game.

And he has great quickness and decent overall athleticism. He's a really good player.

Personal opinion is you should try to care less about this type of criticism. Why even bother with what Nick Wright says when it is so obvious he is playing a character for a sports entertainment network.

Fans get so wrapped up in QB pride, lol.

I guess. But it just bothers me. Because it's so, so wrong. So untrue. He's really got a lot of star potential and is already great. It's just so offensive. Because he's our guy and because it's so wrong.

Life is tough.

Get a ring and silence the haters.

It's so deeply unfair though and not true. For that reason it bothers me.

agree.

what I am most confused about is where is it coming from? why?

It's not rooted in data. Its something else.

Maybe he needs a gold chain or to get in a fight on the field - who knows.

"You guys are gonna think I'm crazy, a 15-yard penalty – and I don't condone this, but I kinda do in the playoffs," Chmura said. "A 15-yard penalty for a late hit on Brock Purdy is not a bad thing, as long as it's worth it."
Chmura also mentioned Green Bay's 27-17 divisional round win against the 49ers in January, 1996. The Packers were 9.5-point underdogs in that game.

"We intimidated them," Chmura said.

I can see why people get all up in arms with that quote, but it's worth noting that Ronnie Lott would say the same thing.....'sometimes you gotta take a 15 yarder and let your opponent know you mean business'...or something along those lines.

If Chmura simply means to rattle Purdy...to intimidate him with one late shot...I got no problem with his statement. If the intent is to injure - Greg Williams style - well that is another thing entirely.

Evidence that Ronnie Lott said this in public or in a syndicated radio or TV?
