pretty sure there's also a blueprint for purdy but by the time the league finds out, it might be too late.

Pretty much,...and especially with our roster and this defense. Anything can happen.

Gardner Minshew. Had an even higher passer rating than Purdy in his first three starts. And all three starts were against 2019 playoff teams (though the Jags only went 1-2).

Now, let me be clear that I really, really badly want Purdy to be that guy. We've been searching for that guy for decades now and have been tricked at least three times into thinking we've finally found him. It's just that three games is not enough to know that he is him given that there have been cases where much larger sample sizes weren't enough.

I wouldn't be upset if Minshew was playing for the 49ers right now. I think he's good enough to start for someone in the NFL.

Some guys in here says it doesn't exist. f**k yes it exists. Even Steve Young says it exists. Tom Brady has it. Joe Montana has it. Steph has it.

In your opinion, is the "it" factor binary? Meaning either a player has the "it", or he doesn't? Or are there varying degrees of the "it"?

remember the DOG and the "it" back when it came to Jimmy vs. Kyle Murray? Lol

I feel you, Fanatic. There hasn't been enough time to make any sort of major decision on him. I think at worst - we have two capable starters that we know can play decent football in Purdy and Lance and time will tell us who the long term starter should be.

I just hope it's one of them. Lol

In test piloting, it's called "the right stuff".

Sadly, in that case it was easy to tell who had the right stuff by whether they survived or not.

Oh man. Dude said Kyler has the dog in him because Kyler once said that he wanted to be the best QB ever.
Maybe the best QB ever at Call of Doody.

I think "It" is something you either have or you don't.

even if "it" is something that can be developed by a player, it takes years and years of self work to develop those kind of attributes mentally etc. so if a player hasn't done that or naturally have it by the time they reach the league, It's too late because they won't get the numerous years it would take to develop it.

that's my opinion. I'm in the school of thought that not everyone is equal and some people are just genetically better than others - not just physically but mentally as well. It's why I think the mental aspect of the game is something you have or you don't, you have to be part of the lucky sperm club. It's a harsh reality of life that people for some reason refuse to accept.

No Trent/Kittle/Aiyuk/Deebo/CMac in those 3 games either.

Sure, just pointing out that he didn't start out nearly as hot as Purdy.

We all thought Kaepernick and Jimmy had "it" after 3 games. The Rams thought Goff had "it" after 3 seasons. Look how they turned out.

I am not sure many were ever completely sold on Kaepernick.

Jimmy G and Goff will easily start in this league for more than a decade. Not too shabby.

agree.

Not a fan of how wild the Purdy sensation went overnight.

People are talking the next Montana/Brady etc.

Why would that bother you?

I don't get the negativity over being happy with and praising the guy.

For real. Just be happy for now, and if he ends up sucking then we have the rest of our lives to b***h about how much he sucks.
To me the it factor are all the little things that can't be measured at the combine but show up on tape during games. Pocket awareness, sensing the pass rush, the ability to keep your eyes on receivers while scrambling. Watch Mahomes how he'll take off running only to throw an underhand or sidearm pass to a guy that he sees past the first down line. All these traits aren't taught by a QB coach like footwork, throwing motion and learning how to read defenses. You can be great in all the measureables and still not be an elite QB if you don't have those little things. Those 'IT' things.

Exactly
I can't live my life tempering joy and enthusiasm to stave stave off disappointment.
