"He came out well," Shanahan said, via Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News. "Haven't seen today. Just talked to trainer. Came in feeling good and better than earlier in week. Got out healthy and should be a lot better going into the next game."

TY

I don't know the timetable on recovery.

would hate to enter playoffs with a hobbled QB like JG last year.

If the oblique is just a strain it will be better in a week or two, provided he doesn't strain it further. The rib is a different story. Cracked, couple weeks, broken, up to 6. But they have gear he could wear to protect it. Pain would be the only thing affecting his game, but they have shots and drugs for that.

Or just keep developing him. We all know SF goes though QBs like water

This. You never know when it'll be your time. Be ready.

I mean it should have been implied that while Trey is on the team you keep developing him. Same with Brock.

If you don't like that, you don't like 49ers football.

Hahaha

this is the way

I think we'll have the whole gang the rest of the way and through the playoffs.

Not if the #2 seed is still there for the taking.

What do you mean?

If Brock Purdy ends up being our guy, it would be the best thing salary cap wise. He's making approx $700k this year and in 2025 will make $1.1M.

that would make our super bowl MASSIVE

f Brock leads us to a Super Bowl win we need to IMMEDIATELY try to extend him to legit backup money if possible. Maybe even high end. With a several years long contract.

We'd have some leverage because no one knows if he's a one hit wonder, and the NFL is Not For Long. It would be potentially more money than he'll ever see, and it will still be cheap. And if Trey takes the job, we have a reasonably compensated backup. And if Brock keeps it, we have an under-compensated starter for a few years.

Of course, if he really is that good I doubt an agent would agree to it. But then again, an injury could ruin his career at any moment.

????????? you better your bottom dollar he does!

And then we get mocked for saying an elite QB steps out of the progression and throws to the open guy for a big play, while terms like "red lighted" are used in condescending posts about how the lack of attacking spirit on the offense is on Shanahan.

It's early, but I really hope Purdy is the real deal. Because it seems he has ice in his veins.

Your comment is ridiculous. The team would be out of their minds not to TRY to extend Purdy for as cheaply as possible if he leads the team to a Super Bowl win. There are SEVERAL reasons.

You think a Super Bowl winning QB, who at this point, looks like an upgrade over two QBs making WAY more money than him isn't going to want to renegotiate?

Money in your hand has more value than money you may get in the future. Should Purdy lead the team to a ring, BOTH sides have incentive to renegotiate.

lol at the NO U. you make many ridiculous posts. so it's not shocking.

your dreaming if you believe any Super Bowl winning QB would immediately accept getting locked into a back up money deal. from the agent to player, you'd get laughed at. lol.

This isn't Madden. These are real people, not video game characters.

.

But as I also pointed out (which you cherry picked out, which tends to be your M.O.), the 49ers will still have some leverage given his small sample size. It is entirely reasonable to accept a tripling of pay in exchange for an additional year or two under contract.

Lol you think a guy making less than one million a year wouldn't accept a 10 million dollar contract.

your entire idea is not based in kind of reality. jesus f**king christ. you always try to accuse people of the things you do in posts. like you accused me of a straw man argument in this thread earlier this week while using an actual straw man argument about some random 3 INTs. lol youre a terrible poster.

no cherry picking is needed when youre entire idea is ridiculous and never going to happen.

should Purdy lead the team to a ship and happen to begin negotiating, it's not going to be for back up money. lolololol at trying rip off the dude.

You can't extend someone on a rookie contract until their third year anyways so its not happening.

That is literally not cherry picking.

Should he lead them to a ring, he has to face the reality that (a) he's on a four year contract making leas than a million per year, with a GRAND TOTAL of $154,000 guaranteed, (b) his career can end at any moment, and his TINY SAMPLE SIZE is not enough to convince any other team to sign him to starter money at this point, (c) the 49ers invested three first round picks and a third on ANOTHER QB, who happens to be far more physically gifted.

His options are to gamble that his mid-pair is going to win the pot, or get financial security for a few years and simply punt on his "real" contract about when a first round pick would negotiate.

Note that the same thing applies for his final year. He could get a two year extension for 10 million or so if he's simply managing the team to wins. 20 million >> 1 million.

Yes, but I was wondering if it were possible to do a wink and nod move where they officially cut him and then sign him as a free agent. I imagine some sort of penalty could be possible.

EDIT—also note the first post I made in this discussion said "IF POSSIBLE," so this is purely academic.
