Right lol? And we have zero clue with what Lance or Brock will be long term
The one thing we can clearly see with Purdy is his excellent processing speed. The group he worked with in the offseason tested him on that and said he was top of the chart. Now we are seeing that in game situations. He is reading post-snap very well and hitting receivers on time and in rhythm. So, that is a very good place to start in long-range planning.
Kittle was saying post game that he and other players could see the confidence and ability of Purdy from training camp and forward. He was the team's best kept secret.
He is a once in a generation player and we got him for a bargain. Trey on the other hand is a work in progress who may or may not develop into a good QB.
Barring injury, Purdy will. He is already there hitting the ground running and scoring wins in the first three games he played. Trey on the other hand has not shown he is a winner.
It is difficult for some people to move on from a narrative they have accepted in their mind when someone comes along who blows their pet QB out of the water. But it is what it is. Some people do not recognize talent straight away and it will take some time to convince them. The 49ers will move on from Trey if Purdy wins the SB and find a cheaper option in the draft for backup.
We are all pulling for Purdy and the team to win it all, but watching this many people trip over themselves rushing to a conclusion to what Trey or Brock will be long term is silly. At least with Jimmy we have a substantial sample size to definitively say who he is as a QB. The interception Brock threw vs TB that was negated by a flag would not have made much difference in that game, but had the one he threw last night stood, it would have changed the entire composition of the game, and possibly cost us the W. That s**t needs to be cleaned up STAT. We also have yet to see how he responds to being down in the game. Again, with Jimmy we already know that when the team falls behind he is not likely to lead a comeback. If Brock can, that will be another stripe he will earn. It anointing him the chosen one after 3 games? I'm not there yet.
Purdy has a winning mentality. He has demonstrated he can evade defenders inside and outside of the pocket by being Mr Slippery. He can also throw on the run and pull off unscheduled plays. They are all the tools and characteristics that QBs who can come from behind have. On the other hand Lance has shown us that all he can beat is low ranking teams and can't win in the wet. There were a lot of his passes bouncing off the ground in front of their target in the first game this year.
Tell me you didn't read a word I wrote without saying it.
That was addressed by other posters as well as me. We can sit here counting all the almost intercepts and all the almost touchdowns. Neither are counted because they did not happen and the fact they did not happen mainly comes down to luck.
With that said he is still a rookie and he will be making some dumb mistakes. That comes with the territory. Stats show that even Brady, Montana and Young had higher intercepts in their early years compared to their later years. Same with JG this year with his lower number of intercept then before. If Lance was in there would also be too many intercepts and turnovers. This is a natural growing pain. So, so what?
LMFAO. You still didn't read it? Has nothing to do with turnovers. It's about judging QBs after only a couple of games. You've determined Brock is going to be great and Trey is going to be a bust. And neither one has even played 5 games.
... and Jose Cortez ain't too far behind, as soon as I see him post again.
