QB Brock Purdy Thread

Lots of chatter among the talking head class about how Brock is "the problem" for the 49ers. For about every three of four of those takes you can find one of these. I don't know what this guy's background is but he does a lot of Niner videos. This one seems a little less hysterical than a lot of the others out there. Brock has had his issues but, as this guy points out, football is a collaborative sport, all of the elements need to work together to get the best result and with Bengals that wasn't happening. I don't think Kyle or Wilks called very good games and Brock and the offense got hung out to dry a little. Hopefully, they will be able to sort some of this stuff out over the nest two weeks.
if we get a repeat 4th game in a row with down the middle INTs.. that is not just bad luck.. it's a problem

I think when we get our run game back (TW) we won't be relying on dropping the ball over the middle ad nauseum and can use those plays once other threats have been established.

It feels like our playbook halves when the game gets close and we start going to the well too often with plays that have already worked.

Have we thrown a back shoulder since Jennings v Giants?

This is a great point. I think Kyle does go to the well to often on certain plays. He way over thinks things sometimes. Just keep it simple for Purdy.

I recall Bill Walsh usually had at least one gimmick play every game. He usually ran it once and then filed it away in the vault. He was constantly giving defenses something else to think of. Sometimes he would pull out a ply he ran in week 2 during the playoffs. Sometimes we wouldn't see it again that year. The point is he showed it and it was always something the opposition needed to be aware of.

Kyle seems a little predictable. His opening drives are nearly always all CMC. The first play is often a toss to CMC around the left end. I'm not a scheming genius and I don't break down film like some of you but if I can see those tendencies then surely other teams can spot them.

Purdy - 68.7% cmp%, 2033 yards with 12 TD's and 5 INT's. Purdy should hit 4000k yards passing easily

4k never comes easy, last to do it was Garcia iirc

Yup, but Garcia did it with a 6-10 record always passing from behind. Purdy is doing this while handing the ball off to CMC.

It seems Kyle's scheme is focused on opening up the middle. This is 7 years now. It's where he has them focus the ball.

I think Purdy is legit very very good, but we obviously need more data.

A thought that crossed my mind was: Jimmy G looked electric first five games..... Then obviously got hurt but imo as he played more and more, kinda dropped off from those first flashes and early success?

I am hoping this is not the case with Purdy, but it makes me wonder if his offense is bogging these guys down in some way? Just spitballing nothing concrete etc.

You could see this coming a mile away the moment you knew he threw an interception or lost a fumble.

The talking heads though he sucked when he had no picks and was 5-0.

Nobody mentions how cmc was averaging 100+ yards rushing the first 4 games and has only average 45 the last 4. Since he's the only one who gets any carries essentially we have no running game.

Yet Brock still has to work with it with mckivitz and burford on the right side and moore on the left. Now banks is hurt.

Sure he could have avoided the interceptions but if you look at his work as whole even in the bad games he's been good and efficient the majority of the games. He's also had receivers drop passes perfectly thrown as well mixed in.

that's why I say it won't be easy, tho with this defense, Wilks is doing his part
