QB Brock Purdy Thread

It's interesting Brock's PFF grade was pretty high yesterday and his QBR was solid but yet there are numerous comments about him being horrible and a scrub.

It's weird to me that INT's cloud the view of the whole picture. Brock was getting some praise in the Browns game where I thought he looked horrible and gets a lot of heat for the bengals game where I thought he played pretty well overall.

To be fair, turning the ball over is the absolute worst thing a QB can do (especially if you don't overcome them).

Here's my point about overcoming turnovers. Did you know that Montana threw three interceptions in the 81 Championship game against Dallas, yet that never gets talked about because of The Catch. If we had lost that game, those interceptions definitely would have been brought up.

One thing I am noticing more of is teams rushing 3 and dropping 8 into coverage. Trying to mess up Brock's rhythm by clogging things up underneath.

After being a bit reactionary yesterday I have to remind myself that this kid is still in his 1st season of games and is essentially still a rookie. in his first full season starting, after sitting a season behind Alex Smith Mahomes had back to back 2 int games in his 6th and 7th starts, and then later had a 3 int game in his 12 start. Allen has had multiple multi-int games in his first 17 games. Aaron Rodgers had 2 games where he threw 3 picks in his first season starting after sitting for 3 years behind Brett Favre. P Manning threw 2 or more int in 9 of his first 17 games. Drew Brees had 6 mulit int games in his 1st 17.

I choose to be patient.

True.

The lack of a running game with Trent Williams out has made it easier for defenses to make that scheme work. Jaylon Moore has been somewhat serviceable in PP but is far below the Williams standard in run blocking. PFF gave Moore a run-blocking rating of 58.3 for the game yesterday. Compare that to Trent's usual high-80s rating and you have a good picture of why defenses can get away with a 3-8 scheme.

It is well-known that Kyle's scheme starts with a good run game but with Williams out and McKivitz's season-long RBLK rating of 55.4, it is easy to see why Purdy's rhythm is impacted. (For the record, McGlinchey's current RBLK with Denver is a very solid 71.1.)

Worthwhile information.

If we want him to be great, we have to be patient with the process of working that out. Yes, he's had to games where he threw 2 picks. They were bad plays, and there's no real excuse.

He also had 2 awesome drives, leading to touchdowns, and could have had another if BA catches that Ball before halftime.

He scrambled, and made some huge plays that were off-script.

I think he's going to be okay. You don't have to trade him in madden or draft a rookie QB because brock will be fine.

He's still making some nice throws and has now discovered his legs as a scrambling threat. The first INT where Brock didn't expect the DL to bat down the ball and INT it, that's bad luck. The second INT was bad. The third INT was garbage time and he was forcing things so I don't really care about that one.

I noticed Brocks ints were the result of anticipation gone wrong. It's still a bad mistake, but it's something that he is fully capable of learning from. He was literally the reason why we were in the game and I still believe in him.

Something I really like about Brock is the way he answers the questions after a game no matter whether they win or lose. He accepts responsibility and answers in very concise terms. It's a mark of how smart he is.

I think they have to meet with the media. I think double check it. But I like the fact he answers the questions too.

In his last 17 full games, Brock only has 10 turnovers to go with 28 TD passes and 4 TD runs. Find me a list of rookies who matched or beat those numbers in their first full season.

It also shows a lot of inner confidence. He knows who he is and that allows him to self-scout effectively without becoming discouraged by his mistakes.

combine yesterdays most of the game with browns end of the game brock performance and you have a mahomesish type of performance.

lets give brock some time to work on getting the mistakes out of his game
