as you said - nothing against him, I really like him and think he deserves to be starting in this league, Purdy is simply more aggressive than jimmy and seems to trust his ability to complete those deeper chunk plays.
Because they are married to the narratives that either Jimmy did exactly what Kyle wanted or that Kyle was limiting Jimmy. Clearly neither are true.
If the 9ers had Brock Purdy in the NFC title game and he played like he did on Sunday the 9ers would've blown the Rams out. Aiyuk was open all game.
Yea he was. Aiyuk is one of the best in the league in beating coverage. Also, Deebo was wide open down the sideline for a game winning TD. You don't need 3+ seconds of pass protection to throw the deep ball. You just need to see the open receiver and let it rip.
I think because of his arm limitations, Brock has had to learn to throw with anticipation far more than a gunslinger with a big arm who can wait until their receiver is open.
Given that, that means Purdy may not need the standard time to throw deeper. He's going to trust his guys will be getting to their spots.
That'll be both a blessing and a curse most likely.
I was told in here that you need great pass protection to throw deep. I was also told that Kyle doesn't call deep shots down the sideline because they are low percentage plays. In the pre season I saw a deep throw to Danny Gray that happened in less than 2.5 seconds. Now we witnessed a QB with a weaker arm than Jimmy win deep twice in 1 quarter. Seems like a lot of assumptions were made about Kyle in order to defend a single player. Last season's NFCCG would have been won if we had a QB with a killer instinct.
Great unit pass protection is never a bad thing. If Kyle is calling a double move sluggo, you're going to need more time for sure (either by the QB or PP).
We haven't seen any deep 9's or post patterns. Those take longer too.
I guess it just depends on the type of shot called and whether the receiver is contested or not. But sure, a "deep" shot can be taken at 2.5s.
I never said great pass pro was a bad thing.
So that double move that Aiyuk made doesn't take as long as running a straight line down the field? What about the route CMC ran for the deep TD?
You are right in the fact that those deep shots are anticipation throws because they need to be released before the reciever makes separation.
My only questions with Purdy at this point are can he be as efficient as Jimmy with the short/intermediate stuff and can he perform when the offense gets behind on the scoreboard?

Saw a graphic on one of the sports shows the other day that had Brock's numbers posted for his three game appearances so far. Obviously it is a very limited sample size but his 70% plus completion rate. QBR, yards, and TD to interception rate are all in the top five over that two game period.
