QB Brock Purdy Thread

There's no way that I am anointing Brock Purdy as a franchise QB at this point in time. Seen this way too many times to be convinced with this small a sample size that it is sustainable.

That being said, if Brock does continue to play like he has so far against Miami and Tampa Bay, then even if Jimmy does come back and can play, I'm not sure that you pull Brock. Brock has looked great in those 2 games, and it will certainly be good enough to win, even in the post-season.

Teams will eventually figure out what Purdy can do best and where he struggles. Why wouldn't they? Only a handful of QBs have no weaknesses. It didn't take long for the league to figure out that JG couldn't move well and was no throw to run or that he doesn't like to throw deep outside routes. Eventually they'll find somethung Purdy doesn'y do well but so far it seems like he's comfortable with most throws. His weakness may be in facing certain types of defenses. We'll see.

Well his Pro-Bowl level squad wont be complete tomorrow without Deebo. So while the skill level is still very high across the board, we'll see how teams may focus on CMac a little more and what Shanny & Purdy can do about it.

Agree in the lack of a need to anoint.

But I think we can say @ the very least that we have a backup-worthy QB.
The most important part of Brock's game and mobility is to keep himself from being injured. At least 2 mobile guys this year got hurt that I remembered, Zach Wilson and most recently Kyler Murray. Trynna juke and wiggle right into an ACL.

I have seen a light turn on in shanny with purdy that I haven't seen with Jimmy or Lance or any other qb.

The play-calling hasn't been different. The way the QB is executing those plays and how they've played when pressured imo has been different. Brock is moving/feeling pressure much better than Jimmy, which is creating positive outcomes.

Nah. Cannot be true. I was told by a highly reputable source on the WZ last night that it was the run game that opened up those deep shots.

Exactly. Brock is just more aggressive than jimmy and seeks the biggest chunk plays before short/check downs (given the play isn't designed to be short). It's the same plays - just different skill players are being targeted and Purdy has made the tough throws.
Purdy's most impressive throw to me (from just a pure placement standpoint m) is a throw that was dropped by CMC in the end zone. They scored the next play but he dropped a DIME between like three defenders in a SUPER tight window. Hit CMC perfectly, but he dropped it. It was against Miami.

it was second down and goal - right before halftime. He threads it beautifully.

I don't see much difference in the type of plays being called. It's not like when Jimmy was in, all five routes were short. I don't think Purdy is hitting any deep Posts anytime soon, but his willingness to target 1v1s up the sideline is allowing some plays to be made that weren't given a chance in the past.

It was so good the 49ers called the exact same play again. Purdy threw it sooner and it was a touchdown.

To me, those are the kind of throws we have been missing from a QB for as long as I can remember, literally. We never seem to make those tough small window throws or even attempt them - with any QB we've had the last 20 years. It's beautiful 😍
