QB Brock Purdy Thread

Purdy looked FANTASTIC against the Buccaneers, who are a top 10 defense. He definitely inspired a lot of hope that this season isn't lost.

It's more that people are crowning and anointing him as a franchise QB that's going to lead us to a Super Bowl after one game. Which is fine, because that's the fun part of being a fan, but "just sayin'."

Purdy has four regular season games and at least one playoff game to show what he's got. That's going to be exciting to tune in and see for the next month.
Oh he is definitely crowned, and I am one of the crowners. To me he has shown enough in these few games, that a stinker game would not change my opinion.

The only scratch in his crown is that he is relatively smaller of stature, which could lend itself to injuries. But even with that, he has had the benefit of good analytics and PT input and treatment such that, for example, he increased his throwing speed by an unheard of 5 miles per hour.

If he can stay in games, the sky's the limit.

As for the risk of me looking like an idiot, been there done that. "it is better to have loved and lost, than not to have loved at all."

I love this kid's moxie and subtleness to his game. He seems to have that pocket feel you just can't teach. His "deep ball" needs work/timing but it's more than adequate. It'll be fun to see if he can hit deep 9 routes down the sidelines with a defender on his man. Does he throw it earlier? Deep arc? Laser? Back shoulder? How about a deep post between two defenders?

But the rest of the throws he seems to have nice layered location, accuracy and touch. Throws harder when he needs too. Throws on the run well.

For a 7th rounder, he seems to have tools many guys don't.

Throw in the intangibles such as study habits, leadership, coachability, poise, toughness, and fire, it's impossible not to be excited about this kid. His floor is much higher than we realized.

I know Shanahan has a hard on calling plays for purdy. This isnt that game. Let the running game and defense win you this game. DOnt turn the ball over. Dont fall behind. Purdys confidence will build up. This is the type of game that can shoot down purdys confidence if shanahan puts him in a bad spot.

What makes you think kyle will put him in a bad situation? Kyle has done everything you want a HC to do for a 7th rd rookie coming in mid season. At some point you need to let it go with the shanny slander, he's been damn good at his job overall.

The paranoia is real.

For him, anything with Shanny is a bad situation lol.

Shanahan has been among the best play-callers in the league the last 10 years. Like Aiyuk's touchdown. None of Shanahan's critics recognized that his route was eerily similar to his corner-stop earlier in the game. Kyle sets defenses up. His main flaw is sometimes expecting too much out of his players, though, so in truth Jose isn't terribly far off. But I think even Shanahan has gotten better at being careful with who he has playing.

Yea Miami hasn't been too hot lately. What happened to the "it was all McDaniel" chant? It just disappears,....meanwhile those same voices dont show up to give KS credit when it's clearly due.

The roster is stacked with talent and we're on our 3rd QB and still pegged to win.

I think he's talking about hoping Shanahan doesn't have Purdy coming out just passing the ball and having the running game wear them out.

Exactly this. I wasn't criticizing Shanahan. I was just saying what I think Shanahan shouldn't be doing.

I have seen a light turn on in shanny with purdy that I haven't seen with Jimmy or Lance or any other qb.

I've not seen much of a difference in the play calls for Jimmy and Purdy. Similar skill sets, similar calls. One major difference from what I can tell is Purdy has been absurd on 3rd down, going 18-20 with two TDs and no INTs, and 11 first downs out of 20 (0.55). Jimmy was good at that this year, but not 90% passing good, and at 0.48 of his passes being first downs, he was pretty good there too. But Brock has been better on that crucial down so far. Brock also has had a slightly higher passing 1D%.

So, Brock has been a bit more efficient than Jimmy, and he's completing passes about a yard more through the air than Jimmy.

Waiting for players and coaches to start revealing that Purdy has been dishing no look passes in practice.

Small sample size though. And Brock's entire dataset includes CMC so you'd expect his ability to get first downs to be higher.
At this point, enjoy the ride as so many have said. In this game (life?), sometimes all you need is a little bit of hope, and I heard great things happen.
Whether it's Jimmy's return for the playoffs, or Deboo's early return, or Lance's potential return, everything is good hope in some form.
When those things happen, the team will deal with it, meanwhile, it's the Purdy show. We'll take as much as it can give.

Btw, Shanahan is fine, I think the ownership, GM, org as a whole value him. It's hard to find good coaches in this league.

what are the lottery numbers this week?

Avoid the free rusher, on the run, accurate to Deebo. Purdy good by Brock. You see Deebo strutting after the catch after seeing what his qb just did

This was my favorite play from Sunday. Obviously the TD to CMC was nice, but this displayed great athleticism and improvisational skills.

This and he's much better at extending plays and avoiding the pass rush.

I made a comment before that he reminds me of Brady. Not the way he plays, but the his intangibles. The confidence, the work ethic, the competitiveness, no fear, intelligent, good leader.

It's a very similar situation that Brady found himself in in 2001.the only real difference is their physical size and Brock is more athletic. Outside of that, they have a ton of similarities - including being overlooked and judged for "not being built like a quarterback".

what cracks me up is most of the all time greats that won Super Bowls weren't "prototype" at all. Montana, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Wilson etc. the list goes on.

The intangibles are much more important than 6'5 with a cannon arm, as long as you're tall enough and have a good enough arm, you can be a great in this league, just need the intangibles.
