Brocks success is separate from Jimmy.
If he was limited in practice does that mean his injury is worse than reported? Doesn't seem like we could afford to limit his practicing right now unless we had to.

They'll probably upgrade him and have him practice in the next couple of days.

Not saying he's gonna be Joe. But the footwork, the throwing motion, the creativity, the sneaky athleticism. Young Joe Montana vibes.

Edit: I meant to quote you, NY. My bad.

I watched Super Bowl XVI earlier today, and I noticed that there are some similarities in their play styles. Agreed, not saying he is just like Joe, just noticed something about the way they both play. Maybe it is the confidence or footwork. I don't know exactly.

Brock is very average physically in every way except for his 10 yard split which is in the 95th percentile. So he has the ability to change directions quickly and has good initial burst. The movement in the pocket, ability to stop on a dime and then gather to throw immediately make sense. And it's very much how Joe played. When you combine that type of suddenness to his movements with the IQ, vision, leadership, and guts to make tight window throws - you get what happened on Sunday.

Joe did it for a career, Brock has done it for a game and a half. Again, not saying he's Joe. Just reminds me a lot of his style.

Bc Jimmy has limitations in his game and Brock has already shown the ability to surpass those limitations. And the whole damn team is behind BCB.

Eh. I'm SUPER excited for Purdy. He made throws that Jimmy has just missed in his 5 year career with the 49ers. He showed great poise, he showed ability to move around the pocket, he showed toughness, he showed ability to execute the offense... those things alone, with this surrounding cast, can be enough to win games.

But..... my "pump the brakes" comment is that the sample size is so small. So far, so good, but he very likely has flaws in his game that haven't quite shown itself yet.

For Jimmy, it was an inability to threaten beyond 20 yards & the sidelines, injuries, sometimes doesn't take the big throws that are there, as well as a penchant for bad turnovers (which I admit seems to have lessened this year). Nick Mullens was bad with turnovers. Beathard was immobile and didn't seem to process very quickly. Kaepernick wasn't great with anticipation and going through his progressions. Alex Smith was a bit conservative, good in a lot of areas, but not great in anything particular. Etc, etc.

Every QB has flaws, and for Purdy, we just don't know what it is yet. I'm excited for potentially being able to make a run at a Super Bowl... for the possibility of finding the next diamond in the rough Tom Brady kind of guy... But I think it's prudent to just see what he shows us in the last couple games of the season, and then see what he shows us during the pressure of Playoff football.

The way he carries himself also. Michael Irvin was saying he got tom brady vibes from brock. Brock is making a believer out of many, he's got a long way to go, but damn he's been really good so far.

The first start of Nick Mullens

16-of-22 for 262 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions for a passer rating of 151.9.

With each completed pass, Mullens seemed to reach another historic benchmark.
• Mullens' passer rating of 151.9 was the best by a quarterback making his debut with at least 20 attempts since 1970.
• That passer rating was the highest by a 49er since Alex Smith had a rating of 157.1 on Oct. 29, 2012.
• Mullens joined Marc Bulger, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Marcus Mariota as the only players over the past 25 seasons to throw for three or more touchdowns in their first game, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.
• Mullens is the first player since Carson Wentz to throw for a touchdown in his first career game on the team's opening drive, and one of four to do it in the past 15 seasons, along with Wentz, Mariota and Matt Ryan.
• Mullens joined Fran Tarkenton (1961) and Jim Kelly (1986) as the only quarterbacks to throw for 250-plus yards, three-plus touchdowns and no interceptions in an NFL debut since 1950.
• Mullens is the first player in 49ers history to throw for three touchdowns in his first game with the team, according to Elias Sport Bureau.
• The last time a 49ers quarterback threw two touchdown passes on the first two drives of a game was Colin Kaepernick in Week 4 of 2016. The last time the Niners scored a touchdown on their first two drives of a game was Week 14 of 2016.

Things went so well for Mullens on Thursday night that his previously unverified Twitter account was granted a blue check mark -- during the game.

To be fair, the Raiders were the 2nd worst team in the NFL and the 26th ranked defense. Purdy beat two playoff contenders and the Bucs have the #6 pass defense in the NFL.
Exactly this. This is why the mullens comparison needs to stop. Purdy went up against good teams. Buccs offense hasn't been great but purdy lit up their good defense.

The larger point is that Mullens looked great at first, but in time, he showed the flaws that dictated why he is a QB2, QB3 in this league.
Purdy looked FANTASTIC against the Buccaneers, who are a top 10 defense. He definitely inspired a lot of hope that this season isn't lost.

It's more that people are crowning and anointing him as a franchise QB that's going to lead us to a Super Bowl after one game. Which is fine, because that's the fun part of being a fan, but "just sayin'."

Purdy has four regular season games and at least one playoff game to show what he's got. That's going to be exciting to tune in and see for the next month.
