I am very wary of this scenario as well.

BP seems to have an extra "it" factor that Mullens didnt but we shall see.
Yep.

After the 49ers win the Superbowl with Brock Purdy at QB, who plays Brock Purdy in the feature film "Mr. Irrelevant"?
Tom Cruise

Yep.

I understand the concern but Brock Purdy is a far different animal than Nick Mullens. He is really more of a complete player and it is obvious he has a high level of football IQ. Nick's win against the Raiders was when that team was still at the bottom of the heap. The Dolphins were a much better team two weeks ago than the Raiders were when Nick started and beat them. Same with the Bucs.

Purdy is playing at a much higher level than Nick ever did and it is no fluke. Purdy has serious talent and although there is always a risk of bust it does appear pretty small given his level of play so far. I am not worried.

Could be Cooper Rush, could be Tony Romo.

I hope Brock is neither of those as Romo had zero clutch gene or it factor.

With how much Purdy looks like a kid still, I say Tom Holland

And they can do a Rudy type Storyline where everyone told him he is not Big enough, fast enough, or have the strongest arm to be a QB. But he fights against the odds to reach his dream.

Most movies that say they are based off true stories fudge the facts anyways.
The fact that we are arguing about wether Brock Purdy is Joe Montana or Nick Mullins after his second start is pretty sad. Let's just see what happens while realizing that honestly he's had two really good games so the only place to go is a little bit down from here. And it's okay. All we need is a guy to get us across the finish line with our historic d which came within one fluke play of shutting out Tom Brady and extending a second half scoreless streak to five games. I hate to be a party pooper but that's a bigger story than Brock Purdy . although I like the kid and think he can help us out. I still think everybody should be looking at that game to figure out how we got five touchdowns. What's the secret sauce there. It wasn't just Brock

If Purdy=Romo, 49ers would be winning multiple SBs. Romo wasn't playing with fully loaded rosters like Dallas has now either.

This made me chuckle 🤣
BOSA (on Purdy): "We have a QB", says what about Jimmy? And don't forget about Mostert's comment before the MIA game and these are his teammates before and now.

New 9er QB ERA for sure, with Trey and Purdy, and no more going backwards that is the 9er none probowl QB curse, thank goodness and good riddance.

No matter what the thread title, you never fail to turn it into another "I hate Jimmy Garoppolo" post. To make matters worse, you have now turned it into a series of personal attacks against those with whom you disagree. Time for you to take a break.

Thank you

The first start of Nick Mullens

16-of-22 for 262 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions for a passer rating of 151.9.

With each completed pass, Mullens seemed to reach another historic benchmark.
• Mullens' passer rating of 151.9 was the best by a quarterback making his debut with at least 20 attempts since 1970.
• That passer rating was the highest by a 49er since Alex Smith had a rating of 157.1 on Oct. 29, 2012.
• Mullens joined Marc Bulger, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Marcus Mariota as the only players over the past 25 seasons to throw for three or more touchdowns in their first game, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.
• Mullens is the first player since Carson Wentz to throw for a touchdown in his first career game on the team's opening drive, and one of four to do it in the past 15 seasons, along with Wentz, Mariota and Matt Ryan.
• Mullens joined Fran Tarkenton (1961) and Jim Kelly (1986) as the only quarterbacks to throw for 250-plus yards, three-plus touchdowns and no interceptions in an NFL debut since 1950.
• Mullens is the first player in 49ers history to throw for three touchdowns in his first game with the team, according to Elias Sport Bureau.
• The last time a 49ers quarterback threw two touchdown passes on the first two drives of a game was Colin Kaepernick in Week 4 of 2016. The last time the Niners scored a touchdown on their first two drives of a game was Week 14 of 2016.

Things went so well for Mullens on Thursday night that his previously unverified Twitter account was granted a blue check mark -- during the game.

And yet I haven't seen anyone savagely attacking them.

I think anyone that isn't a complete homer gets that Purdy can come back down to Earth once defenses adjust to him, but maybe he won't. Time will tell, I'll enjoy watching him play in the meantime.

Dolphins broke that streak last week

Let's put aside the numbers and focus on what our eyes tell us. Sometimes when you've played a game enough or watched enough you can tell if a player has IT or not. Purdy looks like he has IT. That doesn't mean he's going to keep winning every game. I'm sure there will be some bad plays and rough games. The thing is he looks comfortable out there even though he's just getting his first NFL action. It looks like he was well prepared in college. It's amazing that so any team would pass him by when he performed so well in college. Iowa State isn't a perennial powerhouse so that's why he got ignored. If he had played at Alabama or Georgia or any of the big time programs he would have been selected higher even though he isn't big. Thank you Kyle for seeing enough to not let him go into free agency.
