I hate how people act like Montana was a dink and dunker. The west coast offense wasn't JUST short passes. It just replaced a lot of runs with short passes. They attacked down the field when it was there, and you could see it in these clips.
I view the WCO as the first style of offense that really viewed the game as a "chess match". It went from just brute play to finesse - and I think the work finesse isn't "soft". It's intelligent and technically sound.

There was that play last year where Aiyuk never expected it to come his way so he totally never saw the pass come deep near him. Can't imagine after Purdy yelled at him about it and seeing it in the film room he'll ever do that again.
