If Purdy continues like this for the rest of the year, we should admit the mistake and get what trade value is left with Lance. When he played, Lance looked so skittish and uninspiring, with wild inconsistency. Or just have him be the backup and hopefully he shows something before year 4 of his contract.

How can you say he wasn't?

Just look at YR1…he sat the whole yr, in the NFL that's absolutely taking the long-term approach. Most organizations put in the high end drafted QB and toss him in the deep end before he can even swim…. that's why there are so many failures. You're coming from college, with horrible defenses, easy spread concepts and half field reads. Most these guys are on amazing rosters in college.

Brock has 4 yrs worth of being a starting QB and clearly that's helped him, but there are limitations to his game. Just are. I'm pumped he's playing well BUT that's also a reflection of how good this team is and how well coached they are. You got people in here saying it was all Jimmy, yet we got a 7th rd pick with a worse arm playing just as well…that's a testament to Kyle and the team just as much imo.

Lance overall has the ability to be special, he needs reps just like anyone does to learn anything in life. We got two young cheap QBs on the roster for the foreseeable future…that's a good thing. No one is getting traded.

I looked over his pre draft workouts, dude has very substantial neck, hands/fingers, wrists, legs, and ankles.

I think he'll avoid the injury bug we're used to w/Jimmy.

Of course, this is all speculation, but he seems to be a brick s**thouse.

If I'm not mistaken, I read an article that said that because he was so built - it messing with his mechanics and velocity. After the season and before the senior bowl thing - he worked with a bunch of professionals and massively improved his velocity (added 5+mph to his throw) and mechanics

This is also what Kurt Warner talked about. Either no hot read by design or he's to the back side which doesn't help the QB if blitzed. Result, Brock gets killed.

Listen to him again from :43-3:00 mark where he's talking about the design in general. Same with Kurt. That's two pro QB's talking about this design now.

I will say, he did cover a play (7:23) where it looked like Kyle has CMC run out of the backfield to the play side on Brock's rushing TD. Loved it.

If you listen to Kyle's explanation though. Purdy audibled into a play designed to beat man coverage but the bucs were not in man coverage. They were in zone. The play itself did not account for #22 coming in on the blitz. I guess those are the dangers of making assumptions when breaking down film and not having the inside scoop.

He's not talking about man vs. zone or the play call itself. He's talking about no hot route built in and no recognition/adjustment pre and post snap of the blitz by anybody.

So every single pass play should have a built in hot route?

That's in part what I'm asking. He called it a bad design. But I'm wondering if it's more a coaching point for the non-QB positions. Meaning, should THEY recognize pre snap and adjust post snap? Like he showed, nobody is even looking.

From what thl was showing on that gif above. It looks like the play, if called against man coverage, is meant to beat an over aggresive defense. No one was open because it was audibled into against the wrong type of coverage. That is why no one was open and why the play was dead from the snap.

The QB has to determine if he wants a player running a hot. It isn't a "it's not built into it" thing. There's always hot routes in pass plays, the QB has to audible to it…If he doesn't audible to the correct hot then it looks like there isn't a hot route being run on a play…which is on the QB, not the play call.

Show me on that play he illustrated.

THL just talked about it man. I'm saying overall that's the philosophy of play calling and QB play when it comes to audibles and hot routes.

you can't say there wasn't hot routes built into a concept if you in fact don't know the concept or the responsibility of what the QB has to do in this offense there. It's all assumptions and we know that equals.

I don't think we are quite there yet. If Brock Purdy finishes out the season very strong and gives us a nice playoff run, then I'd say he deserves to go into next year as the starter and make Trey compete. Worst case, treys an expensive backup for us but still a high ceiling backup.

id only trade him if the value was at least 1 first round pick or maybe a couple twos. Even then, with our injury history, we need some sort of quality backup.

Yeah get rid of our 22 yr old uber talented/smart QB because he's only gotten a little over 4QRs of football (mostly in a monsoon) to prove anything to this instant gratification fan base lol….I'm sure our coaching staff and FO will think the same

We can ride out Lance's rookie contract and get a third string backup in FA or the draft
