QB Brock Purdy Thread

^ Did Jimmy G have a "damn good game" vs GB in the NFCCG? He meets your criteria, didn't play bad at all completing 75% of his throws, the whole game he was near flawless missing only 2 of 8 passes. Or is this where we use variables in the sport of football with rational and common sense? Just trying to understand the "in general" part of your rule

You can't coach that, they either do it effectively or they don't

I like that he does this too, but come on. Eye manipulation can absolutely be taught. This isnt some inate skill. At some point or another, Brock learned this.

Yeah, he did it well overall for a rookie. There were a few times, and I think it was mainly his throws that coulda/shoulda been picked, where he messed up on that. The good thing though is that he learned from it immediately and took advantage of it. He did that in the Seahawks game. He was struggling to move the linebacker off where he wanted to and then he adjusted cause the MLB wasn't biting. It's cool to see how quickly he learns and adjusts it on the fly. I'm really hoping he continues that and with an off season to study, he improves on it.

He said he's been studying the playbook, formations, shifts, and was able to have a few months of spending time with the coaches to review plays - that he is even better at it.

most importantly, he stayed composed, confident, and accurate throughout the game for the most part. Extremely impressive. Especially for a rookie

no i disagree. and the keyword is effectively & consistently

i think you can instruct a qb to do it on a certain play, and he can act robotic doing it. the key is doing it consistently and its amazing brock does it as a rookie

ya there were times he shouldn't have thrown it, but i have no problem with a 7th round rookie screwing up once in awhile lol

i'm just glad he already has that as a skill

Yes sir! It's part of playing qb and not being gun shy. He made some bad decisions here and there but that's part of having a young QB. Overall, I didn't think he was reckless. Which is important.

the only play I can think of where i thought he was reckless was the pass play at the end of the raiders game that Aiyuk came down with. He got lucky with the way the ball floated. lol

I don't think he did stuff like that very often, and it may come with experience, but that was a risky attempt. At least from what I remember, I haven't reviewed it. He does a good job of protecting the ball, IMO.

can't wait to see more of Purdy out there doing defenses Dirty!

ya purdy does a great job of playing within the system but also taking risks.

you dont want your qb to be robotic but you also don't want him doing backayrd football s**t on every other play.

Which gives me hope that Brock won't follow the Kap or Jimmy model and stay consistent going forward. Russ is the only guy who was able to do that for any length of time and even he hit the wall with it last year.

Your dropped a couple is such disingenuous nonsense.. one was a tipped pass, and that's why Diggs didn't catch it, it adjusted flight path, in mid air. It was tipped NY.
The other is a jump ball one v one, with his #1 receiver. We want BP taking those downfield shots. It wasn't a good ball, but it wasn't a dropped INT either. Most stat trackers consider a drop as a ball that was, you know, dropped. BA essentially played DB on that one and knocked it away, so it was no drop. So your two dropped INTs goes to zero dropped INTs, in the real world.

to edit - look above NY I said TL played well vs HOU, I'm just not comping a random HOU game, one of the legit worst teams vs a elite D in postseason, that's two dif scenarios

Lol so Fred Warner's INT vs Dak is just as disingenuous. Right? Tipped pass that he caught. Guess we can say that wasn't a bad play for Dak. Brock made a bad read that got tipped.

brock was late and under threw the other ball. Plain and simple. He was on the run and simply didn't have the arm to put to the ball where it needed to be.

Who's comparing the two games? I never was. I used the same damn stat resource to show how good Dallas was when talking about Houston. You're all over the place making up s**t to argue about

classic ring post, total classic

Sounds like something you'd say…if it fit your narrative

You think he was great at that? Man the S and LBers got their hands on quite a few of his throws. Dude had massive throwing lanes, there was a ton of wide ass open guys in this scheme. IMO what Brock was good at as a rookie was managing the offense. Which is a massive part of being a QB. You can tell he's seen a lot of football.

He did a lot more than manage the offense imo

I want someone who's decisive, confident, and aggressive. I think the key to hitting tight window throws consistently comes down to trusting yourself and what you see. Everyone in the league has the ability to hit them from a physical standpoint, I think a lot of it comes down to their mental makeup to trust themselves and their eyes to hit them.

So far, I love everything about Brock's mental makeup as a person and his approach to the game. You know what it takes to be the last pick in the draft and mentally come in trying to earn a spot? Especially when the third QB has a $2M f guarantee? (That's a lot for a third string). Then when you get thrown in, with minimal reps, to play like the team is yours and alway has been!? It's incredible. I can't wait to see more. I hope he doesn't let us down!
