It's about continuity, my friend. If he's ready, he'll start. If he's healthy, he'll play. IMO Shanahan's number priority is to continue Brock Purdy's growth and success through actual playing experience. Why change something that is going great, or something that is giving you the best productivity.

I disagree this is how Kyle is thinking…if he plays bad a couple games they aren't gonna let him develop through that. They should….but they've shown they ain't gonna let that s**t happen. He will get benched and whomever is next up will get a shot.

Why do you think this? What have we seen from Kyle to make you believe this would happen?

Trey Lance giving up 3 1sts and after 100 passing attempts and we've over him. Not playing him yr 1 because we're "trying to win a SB" even though we didn't.

What proof do you have that kyle is gonna let a young QB play through his bumps and take some loses in the processes because of it?

What makes you think any of these QBs have a long leash to play through bad play on this roster?

Kyle stuck with Jimmy in 2021 when he started poorly and even Hoyer in 2017.

Kyle is not trigger happy at QB.

uh they traded 3 1sts to move off Jimmy in 2021 lol. They stuck with him because they didn't think Lance was ready. Not because they wanted to develop Jimmy more.

last I checked Hoyer got 6 games before he was done here lol. They traded for him replacement two weeks later.

has any QB played bad with this roster? other than JJ?

Iinvestment in Jimmy? In 2021 they had just invested 3 first round picks on Lance and Kyle held off from putting him in. 49ers were 2-3 going into the bye and Shanahan held off benching Jimmy. 49ers then lost out of the bye and were 2-4 and Shanahan still started Jimmy the next week vs Chicago.

As for Hoyer - 49ers were 0-6 before Shanahan made a change.

There was reports they were gonna bench Jimmy if they lost vs the Bears. Deebo's long TD saved his season. Yeah and investment…his contract was FGTD in 2021 if on the active roster. He was one of the highest paid players in the league that yr (straight cash/not cap hit).

who was he replacing with Hoyer? A day 3 QB rookie?

like I said he's not gonna give any of these dudes a full season of ups and downs on a Super Bowl roster…if a QB loses a couple games he's gonna end up on the butt bench. Why would he not?

If he's playing well, and plz stop calling it that

Jimmy has absolutely lol. Whomever is the QB and they're the reason we're losing some games. They're gonna end up on the bench. Why would anyone else think otherwise?

kyle doesn't give a f**k. It's about winning and if you're not doing it. Then the next guy will get a chance.

If whomever is playing well then they will continue to be the guy…if he's not then he will be benched. Plain and simple.

Thinks back to all those posts from NY about how JG was doing well last season

Yeah if someone is struggling over and over costing us wins and playing poorly, that may be an issue. Is this a surprise?

Glad things going well with Brock. I've rewatched the first half of the Tom Brady return to Bay Area game from last season about ten times. It was so awesome.

I still don't think we know what we have. Not sure how it can be decided. I love the bold predictions from NFL.com
A number of folks seem to really believe Sam is a hidden gem and never had a fair shot from being on s**tty teams. And I still believe in Trey. Brock blew me away. One needs to once and for all be that franchise QB. It's holding us back.

https://www.nfl.com/news/bold-predictions-for-2023-nfl-season-sam-darnold-s-49ers-top-jets-in-super-bowl-

I agree. I just finally want the QB position figured out for the long-term and not with a Jimmy G 2.0 replacement. IMO Sam is who is he's after 50 starts…people still find excuses for him. At this point if he was good he would have shown it.

I have much higher hopes for Brock and Lance. I also want them to be able to move off whomever if they're not that top end QB (need to see them fail first). No more hovering with an avg level QB that needs everything around him to be great.

Also IMO this article is prime click bait nonsense

I don't think Brock is jimmy 2.0, I think he will be much better, but we don't really know yet. I think he flashed so many special things that I think he should be given the first bid at the benefit of the doubt.

i think Sam has a ton of talent, and he's flashed it at points, but his consistent turnover issues worries the hell out of me. I don't see him becoming a star but I think he can a very good game manager - especially here. I don't see him as a franchise qb though.

i have serious concerns regarding Lance being able to be a top 5 QB in this league, or a franchise qb, but we won't truly know until he plays more. If Brock can't play, I'd rather see Trey over darnold. I'm encouraged by lances improvements this off season but I'll have to see him play before I change my mind on him at this point.

overall, I think/hope Brock will be the guy. I just love everything about how he plays, preps, carry's himself etc. if he can improve on last season, then we've got something special. If not, I'll be disappointed and depending on how he is playing - would rather look for another option. I don't want another "really good" or "damn good" qb. I want a franchise guy

Lance is putting in the work and he too will have CMC at his disposal. Purdy was great and did a lot of intangible stuff that no QB has done here since Steve Young retired, but Im not ready to give up on Lance yet. I want to see him with all the weapons purdy had last year

Which is fair, I understand what you're saying. I wouldn't say I'm giving up on him, I just think we have someone with better potential, but I still think Lance will be a good qb in this league - regardless of where he goes.

I'm excited to watch Lance this camp. I'm hoping we see a much improved version.

I said Jimmy played well with CMC. Yeah Jimmy played amazing vs the Broncos lol. Also I thought you meant over the course of this roster which has been good for years.

most teams that have a young QB that they feel is their guy often let him develop which often requires struggles/loses along the way….if Brock or whomever struggles and loses a couple games. They will be benched more than likely. Imo it's stupid BUT we had a whole gaggle of people in here that weren't gonna let Lance develop and play though s**t because we might lose some games…s**t ain't gonna change for Brock or Sam either. Both who have next to nothing invested in them currently either.

I don't think Brock has better potential. He currently has a better floor and is farther along understanding how to play the position. As far as potential and ceiling, lance is by far the better prospect there (hence where they were drafted) Which doesn't mean anything if he never gets to develop and grow.

He's not going to play musical chairs with the QB. Unless Purdy cannot perform due to injury or absolutely sucks for a large portion of the season, he's going to stay with him. Some minor regression(s) is not going to constitute him getting benched for Lance.. now if Lance blows the doors off this offseason and forces their hand then sure.

IIRC wasn't Trey warming up before or after halftime?
