Yeah but there aren't many QBs who come out of college NFL ready. Granted, his ceiling may not be very much higher than he's playing, but his floor isn't much lower. And this team doesn't need much out of the QB position.

Yep. If Purdy continues at this pace, he's likely the starter next year, and we have a good backup in Lance, who is on a rookie contract as well. Our total spending on our top two QBs next year will be just over 10 million. That's high end backup money for the entire group, not counting the third string (which presumably would be on the practice squad, unless he does what Purdy did in the off-season).

Well worst case we have Jimmy G but only have to pay $1M per year. The window is WIDE OPEN.

I think it's pretty clear Purdy has made Jimmy expendable. Grant it, there are a few games left, but unless there's an unexpected drop, nearly everything Jimmy can do, Brock can do, except he can move better.

Not to mention we have no control over Jimmy and he'll likely see some decent offers from other teams. Not going to pay him that kind of money with what appears to be a comparable, at worst, option for dirt cheap.

Incorrect, because Trey has an entirely different skill set, while Purdy's skill set is very similar to Jimmy's. Moreover, Trey is on a rookie contract, and has one additional factor: potential due to physical gifts. That potential makes him worth keeping around for the duration of his contract.
