I've never seen talk about deep balls in any 49ers QB before. Why Purdy now?

People always have to find something to complain about.

This is a football forum... if people can't handle discussing the pro's and con's on the games, they shouldn't be in here.

No one's saying Purdy sucks, he just needs to connect on those deep throws. Personally, I think he's the best QB we've had since SY. But I would still like to discuss what went wrong and what went right every game. That's what these threads are for.

I guess Jeff George was elite.

wth does he have to do with it? we want purdy to win a superbowl right? he'll have to throw like this to do so

jimmy g could have but he badly overthrew sanders

he is purposely here to detract.

it doesnt matter if u tell him that everybody that has the "ability" to be great is not great. He's not going to listen.

But WB did you witness Jeff Garcia? The man went to I believe 3 straight PBs. He threw for 4k. Back when that was more meaningful. I can't put BP ahead with 0 PBs compared to 3.. let's let this play out here.. Ppl forget, Garcia was good

because it's "Superbowl or bust", and in order to win it all a QB has to deliver these throws, it happens in almost all superbowls.

Purdy has thrown the deep ball. He hit Kittle for 51ish air yards against Washington last year. Does he have the strongest am? No. I think that he will definitely need to hit deep throws. If he can become an average deep ball passer and I'm talking 35+ yards then we are in a great place with Brock. Bc he checks all the other boxes.

Treyded
Purdy never reached 4k in college sooo.....
The throw to Deebo in the endzone was a dime. Probably would have been a TD if not for the blatant interference. That was a down the field throw. Also the throw to Deebo was like 1/4 yard behind the line of scrimmage. So I guess they are counting that as a backwards lateral and a run. Just barely so. But he could have had roughly 2 TD's in the game. 1 was down the field and a good throw. I don't think he at all played badly. He did miss a few others. But far from a terrible game.

I agre, the deep ball is the only non health question mark there is about Brock. That's why people talk about it. Everything else about Brock has been answered.

For the 100th time, Garcia was my favorite player growing up. I received a handwritten letter from him and a signed photo when I was 8 years old, because my older brother's best friend was also Garcia's best buddy.

Garcia was great, I just think Purdy understands how to protect the football better. Maybe the offense would be more explosive with Garcia, but I expect Purdy to reach heights that Garcia never reached.
Some of y'all putting way too much weight on this deep ball "issue". This offense averages 30 points per game under Purdy, ranking near the top of the league.

I'd rather see him overthrowing than under-throwing and it looked like a timing issue anyway. Timing issues can be ironed out, I have faith that he willl get it worked out with no problem.

Agreed. Also think it's worth pointing out he just seemed a little off accuracy wise all game. Not just on the deep passes. He's not going to be great every game… nobody is. Still made some plays and protected the football.

We talked about deep balls a lot when Jimmy was here, because he couldn't throw them and when he did hed miss a lot. Deep throws outside the numbers were his kryptonite.

Maybe you meant balls deep in any 49ers QB, but that's entiiiiiirely a different topic . Im sure there's rule 34 of that somewhere tho
with jimmy it wasnt just deep outside the numbers. it was outside the number numbers period. purdy completing out routes routinely is such a breath of fresh air

The amusing part is that the argument has shifted from Weak Arm to Inaccurate Arm.
