Get it? RUN THE BALL.
Webzone response: But you gotta roll out Trey!!!
Yeah cause we are gonna run the ball 65 times against the Rams. Even if your gameplan is running you still need to throw the ball a bit. One is not exclusive to the other.
The gameplan against the Texans was simple. We mostly ran the ball on 1st and 2nd down in the first half. We actually did have a number of 3rd and manageables, where we tried to run it with a conventional run or a designed QB run. I see the logic in it, but the Texans, like the Cardinals did in Week 5, prioritized stopping that gameplan.
So in the second half, Shanahan abandoned the QB runs and threw a little more, and to Trey's credit, he was attempting passes throughout the field. The running game was a lot more effective once that happened.
I see Shanahan drawn up these really nice QB run plays, but I think he's finding out that he needs Trey to make the defense respect his arm a little more before he can sprinkle those in some more.
